Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Life at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Dan yr Ogof Caves

Dan yr Ogof Caves

Residents thoroughly enjoyed our day out to Dan yr Ogof Caves. Some residents have never been here, so it was an extra special experience for them. It was lovely to see that the caves were open for us to visit, and very wheelchair friendly.

The manager at Dan yr Ogof was very helpful and looked after our experience. The residents were fascinated by the dinosaurs and kept commenting on how realistic they looked and how they once walked the grounds we were walking.

We had lunch, which everyone enjoyed taking in the views. We finished our visit off at the shire stables, where the residents enjoyed looking at the variety of animals that they had.

The weather was beautiful and we look forwards to visiting again sometime soon.

Burry Port Harbour , Burry Port Harbour

Burry Port Harbour

Residents enjoyed a beautiful sunny day down the Burry Port Harbour. They reminisced with each other on how they used to catch the train down to Burry Port years ago with a picnic for the whole family.

One Resident said that he could not believe how much Burry Port had changed since the last time he had visited over 25 years ago. We enjoyed fish & chips in one of the local chip shops before heading back to the bus to go home.

Summer Fête , Summer Fête

Summer Fête

Our Summer Fête that was held on Saturday 3rd August was a great success. Thank you to the fire service and police for coming along to meet and greet all the residents and their families, and showing them around the fire engines and police cars.

Thank you to the Mayor of Gorseinon, Andrew Steven, and Town Councillor, Jan Curtice, for joining us to open our sensory garden.

Everyone enjoyed a fun-filled day with a BBQ, live music, donkey visits and rides, a raffle and plenty of games. Residents and staff enjoyed being able to throw sponges at the manager in the stock; it was the highlight of the day for a lot of individuals.

Trip to Porthcawl

Trip to Porthcawl

Everyone enjoyed our day trip to Porthcawl. Fun day, filled with plenty of things to see and do. We enjoyed a lovely coffee at a beachfront cafe. Delicious food in Finegans Chip shop. We all went shopping around the town. Finished off with a walk over to Corney Beach for an ice cream on the sea front. The sun was shining all day couldn’t have asked for a better weather.

Port Enyon

Port Enyon

Even though the day was grey, it didn’t dampen our mood. Everyone enjoyed fish and chips in the beachfront chip shop, which was rounded off with an ice cream. We then took a guided tour of North Gower, all thanks to one of our residents, who has lived there all his life.

Clyne Gardens

Clyne Gardens

We enjoyed a sunny trip to Clyne Gardens in Swansea, where everyone got the chance to appreciate the sunshine, flowers and a picnic.
