Activities at Iddenshall Hall Care Home

Activities here at Iddenshall Hall are an integral part of every day life for each of our residents. We strive to include as many of our residents as possible with the activities schedule. Our Schedule is released monthly and includes activities such as poetry afternoons, indoor games, Bingo, flower arranging, pamper days, quizzes, exercises, various musicians and entertainers, Pat Dog Visits, Music Therapy, discussion groups and trips out in our minibus to local places of interest and further afield to see the Blackpool Lights or to Knowsley Safari Park.

We are constantly asking the people who live in our home which events they would like to see taking place and we endeavor to fulfill these requests. Our aim is to provide a varied and packed schedule which allows for a vast array of skill bases and capabilities. We are in constant contact with local groups and businesses, the local Beaver Scout group are always happy to pay a visit to our home, helping with the garden or coming at Christmas to sing carols for us. We also have a small group of volunteers to help us, including pupils from our local 6th form College who visit once a week.

All the above helps ensure the lives of our Residents are fun and fulfilled.

Life at Iddenshall Hall Care Home

Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Mad Hatter's Tea Party

We hosted an Alice in Wonderland-themed, Mad Hatters Tea Party in July.

The event was organised by the activities staff and the residents who live at the home, and it included a range of cakes, sandwiches and snacks - all themed - as well as flower arrangements that were created by both staff and residents.

Everyone was welcome to join us during the afternoon. The event took place from 1:30pm to 6:00pm at Iddenshall Hall. Refreshments and snacks prepared by the home’s hospitality team were provided.

Lynne Loughlin, Senior Activities Coordinator at Iddenshall Hall & Beeston View Care Home, said: “This was very popular with everyone who lives at Iddenshall Hall and food-based or creative activities are always a favourite. The afternoon was very enjoyable for us and we were able to display beautiful themed floristry created by the staff and the residents and to welcome people from the community who want to socialise with us.”

Award for VQ Level 2 Appreticeship

Award for VQ Level 2 Appreticeship

We would like to congratulate Senior Carer, Annmarie Scott, on the completion of her Health and Social Care Level 2 VQ Apprenticeship.

Sheila Hassall, our NVQ assessor, awarded Annmarie’s certificate in front of the department heads. Annmarie has worked very hard to achieve this qualification ahead of her end date. She is ecstatic with the completion of her level 2 and is still deciding whether to do her level 3; we will support her decision either way.

All the staff at Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View want to congratulate Annmarie. We are very proud to have her on our team.

Our Trip to Eastham

Our Trip to Eastham

We took a trip to Eastham recently and made the most of the fantastic weather by having a picnic.

We left early to enjoy a full day out and arrived in Eastham at around 11:00am. We set ourselves up a couple of benches overlooking the Harbour. We were able to watch the boats on the River Mersey and see the planes flying over from Liverpool Airport too. There was plenty of people-watching to be done and children to keep us amused, as well as dogs to pet. We ate our picnic next to the Harbour and enjoyed ice cream too. There was a lovely old ticket office there that had been converted into a small shop that sold tea, coffee and treats, so we made the most of that too.

It was a relaxing day but with plenty to look at and discuss. Residents requested fish and chips for their tea, so on our way home we stopped off and enjoyed those before returning back to the home just after 5:00pm. It was a long, but very enjoyable day all round.

Open Day at Iddenshall

Open Day at Iddenshall

We held our annual open day on Saturday 18th June at Iddenshall Hall.

This year we had a BBQ in our outside courtyard area for residents and their families. We served burgers, hotdogs, chicken drumsticks, as well as Pimm's, soft drinks and tea & coffee. All the residents spent the afternoon outside enjoying the sunshine.

We had visits from friends, family, staff and pets too! It was a very sociable afternoon during which we held a bottle tombola and a raffle. Residents, staff and relatives all won prizes.

It is lovely to see everyone socialising together, especially when the sun is shining.

We had music playing in the background so as not to interrupt the flowing conversations. There was lots of laughter and smiles all round.

Mexico Day

Mexico Day

One day of each month is now dedicated to a particular country; food, entertainment and clothing connected to the respective country will be enjoyed on that day. Most recently, we indulged in the culture of Mexico.

We decorated the home with Mexican flags and bunting, in addition to pictures of Mexican food and culture. The kitchen prepared a special menu for the day, including chili con carne, Mexican pork stew, chicken fajitas and dark ginger cake for desert.

Residents dressed in sombreros and staff painted moustaches on their faces for the day. We held a Mexican quiz and created some art work too; we had Mexican pictures for residents to colour in or paint, and the tables were decorated with cacti.

Trip to Manley Mere

Trip to Manley Mere

We drove out to Manley Mere Lake recently to enjoy a picnic in the sunshine.

Despite the children being on holiday, we were able to find an empty picnic bench next to the lake, where we were able to enjoy our food and watch the ducks float by. Residents particularly enjoyed watching all the children playing and swimming in the lake, as well as the boats that were out and about.

It is a lovely place to sit outside and relax.
