Activities at Hunters Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Life at Hunters Care Home

Reminiscing at Hunters

Reminiscing at Hunters

This week at Hunters, residents enjoyed an afternoon of nostalgia, bringing back many happy memories and playing classic '78 records on an old style gramophone.

Pottery Decorations

Pottery Decorations

At Hunters, residents have made pottery Christmas tree decorations in arts and crafts, they are being sold at reception to raise money for Save the Children. This coincides with Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 16th of December, again raising money for Save the Children.

Christmas Cake

Christmas Cake

Residents at Hunters had a fun afternoon making and icing a Christmas cake to be entered in the Barchester Christmas Cake Competition. They followed a traditional fruit cake recipe but, for the icing, they chose a fun Santa Claus face.

Christmas Trees

Christmas Trees

At Hunters we have been busy getting ready for Christmas, and residents have joined in with the festive spirit, decorating a grand total of ten Christmas trees throughout the home. After all of the hard work, everyone enjoyed a well-earned glass of sherry.

Vintage Motorcycle Visit

Vintage Motorcycle Visit

At Hunters, residents were paid a visit at the weekend by Vince Povey who brought in his vintage Royal Enfield motorcycle. The visit proved very popular with the gentlemen residents and brought back many fond memories.

Charity Donation

Charity Donation

At Hunters, we hold a weekly knitting and sewing club, where residents can not only get together and have a chat, but also support worthy causes by giving everything they make to charity. Recently, they made a blanket by knitting squares and sewing them together, and donated it to volunteer worker, Biddy Saunders, who was visiting Tanzania with her local church to work in isolated communities, schools and clinics. Biddy took with her many things to donate, including children’s toys and the blanket knitted by the residents at Hunters. Biddy gave the blanket to a nurse who walked for many miles just to volunteer at an isolated eye clinic. She was so touched by the gesture that she was reduced to tears.

Last week, Biddy visited Hunters to give a presentation on her visit and to say thank you. In return, residents presented her with a basket full of baby hats, booties and another blanket to donate on her next visit.
