Activities at Hunters Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Life at Hunters Care Home

Walks with Hawks

Walks with Hawks

We were visited by Clare from Walks with Hawks, who brought along four beautiful birds of prey to show off. The afternoon was made even better, as the children from Bibury Primary School came along as part of our community engagement programme to join in with the fun.

Clare gave an interesting and entertaining talk whilst the birds flew to hand, giving everyone an up-close experience and a memorable afternoon.

109th Birthday Celebrations

109th Birthday Celebrations

Congratulations to marvellous resident, Elsie, who recently celebrated her 109th Birthday in style with family, friends, residents and staff at Hunters.

Elsie spent most of her childhood living in India, where her father was in the British Army. On her return to Britain, Elsie raised two children: Anne, who lives in Devon, and Lyndsay, who lives in Cirencester.

Elsie also has two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Elsie still has a fantastic sense of humour; she joins in with most activities, often entertaining both residents and staff by spontaneously breaking into song.

Pancake Day

Pancake Day

Every year at Hunters, we celebrate Pancake Day in style, with residents making pancakes with a filling of their own choice. Afterwards, everyone took part in a hotly-contested pancake flipping competition.

This year, as part of our community engagement programme, we were joined by the children of Watermoor School, who joined in with the fun and games.

The Pianist

The Pianist

Local pianist, Harry Frost, is a regular visitor to Hunters. He entertains residents over lunch with gentle classical music to enhance the mood. Harry will be visiting Hunters on the last Friday of every month to coincide with our 'Don’t Dine Alone' initiative, which invites elderly members of the local community to visit the home and enjoy the atmosphere and company with a delicious three course lunch free of charge as guests of the home.

Swing & Jazz

Swing & Jazz

We were entertained by swing and jazz singer, Neil Patterson, who gave his renditions of classics dating from the 1920s right through to the Rat Pack era and modern favourites.

Animal Mania

We were visited by Animal Mania and the residents were treated to an up-close experience with several exotic animals, including a sugar glider, a tree frog, a corn snake and a furless guinea pig, which is called 'skinny pig'. As usual, Carla from Animal Mania gave an interesting talk and ensured that all of the residents present were included and able to see and handle the animals.
