Activities at Hagley Place Care Home

Activities plays a big part in the care we deliver to residents; activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join in with activities and events as often as they can.

Mandy Hayward

Activities Coordinator

I have a long background in the care industry and love to incorporate the outdoors in my activities. This role is very special as it allows me the time to get to know our residents and their families in a deeply personal way.

Christmas Fayre

Hagley Place had a wonderful traditional Christmas Fayre with traditional Christmas carols played on the flute by Miss Hignell, handmade decorations, gifts and seasonal snacks on offer, along with local small businesses selling their wares and good ol' Santa sitting in his grotto handing out presents to the children. It was a wildly successful day and everyone had a great time. We made over £700, which is going to be split between the residents' fund and Jessica’s Scouting Group.

Memory Tree

Memory Tree

We erected a memory tree in 2017 to remember those who are no longer with us. The tree is located at reception and we are inviting people to write the name of a loved one who has passed on a heart tag and then add it to the tree. Both residents and staff have said that it is a lovely thing and a few people even became emotional with remembrance. The tree will stay up until January 5th 2018.

Silly Singing

Residents have been having a grand old time singing with Michelle. From old favourites to classic crooning, everyone has really enjoyed the singalongs.

Christmas Crafts

Christmas is nearly here and Hagley Place has been buzzing with the spirit of the season. We have been hard at work making things to sell at our Christmas Fayre on the 16th December!

Bikers Make a Dream Come True

Resident, Miranda, was a biker when she was younger and has been all over the world on two wheels.

Miranda recently decided to create a bucket list with the help of General Manager, Shann Thomas – and one of those things was to have a biker group come to Hagley with their bikes.

Michelle Jones, the Activities coordinator, contacted a local biker group and arranged for them to visit, in secret, to surprise her.

The Shropshire Biker Group, led by Julian Wild, all came to Hagley for tea and cakes and to meet Miranda.

They brought a t-shirt and hat with them and made her an honorary member of the group.

Miranda was overjoyed and so surprised that a few tears were shed, but all in the name of happiness.

Dementia Carer - Regional Award

Nurse and Deputy Manager, Hayley Simmonds, was named as the West Midland's 'Dementia Carer of the Year' in the 2017 Great British Care Awards for her hard work and dedication to our 10-60-06 programme on Memory Lane.

The awards ceremony was held in Birmingham with all the glitz and glam one would expect. The night was filled with excitement and, when presenting her with the award, the Judges said: "Hayley’s commitment to residents showed exceptional understanding of dementia and her compassion shone through!”

Well done, Hayley!
