Activities at Hagley Place Care Home

Activities plays a big part in the care we deliver to residents; activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join in with activities and events as often as they can.

Moore Park children come to visit

We had a fantastic time making funky necklaces using beads with the children from Moore Park school. We even had a few for gifts from the children which was much appreciated by our residents.

At the end of the session we were treated by joining in with ‘circle time’ where we all came together to sing our favourite nursery rhymes such as 'baa baa black sheep', 'grand ol Duke of York' and 'humpty dumpty'. One of our residents, Judith, said "aren't they precious? They remind me of when me and my children would sing together."

By the end of the session the children were not ready to go and enjoyed having a game of musical statues’ which the residents laughed and smiled at when they put on their best dance moves.

Ukulele music therapy session

Residents at Hagley place enjoyed a relaxed Ukulele session from one of our very talented Barchester employees Amy. Amy is studying music therapy at university and asked if she could perform for our residents. Of course in true Hagley style, we made the event into a Tea party complete with a selection of homemade cakes and biscuits, made by our wonderful chefs. They were "melt in the mouth delicious" said Julie one of our residents.

Dementia Friendly Barber at Hagley

We are lucky enough at Hagley Place to have had a visit from Tom the 'Dementia Friendly Barber'. Our gents spent the day having hot towel shaves with a straight razor, the hot towels are not only relaxing and extremely sensory for the residents but they also serve a dual purpose, they soften the gentlemen's beards making the shave smoother and less irritating for their delicate skin. Not only do the gentlemen looking dashing after a haircut and a professional shave from the barber (specialised in gentleman's cuts) but they have been transported back in time by sitting in a real barbers chair, listening to 'old time' music and chatting with Tom about days gone by. Tom will be back once a month to give our male residents the pampering that they deserve.

Cheese and wine party

Our cheese and wine party at Hagley place was a huge success. The chef made delicious platters of biscuits, crudites, fruits and different cheeses including; Wensleydale with apricot and cranberry, stilton, creamy goats cheese, red Leicester, brie, smoked gouda, cheddar and a hot and fiery chili pepper cheese. The live classical music was beautiful to listen to, with a live violinist and pianist playing classics such as ‘Nessun Dorma’ and ‘A nightingale in Barclay square’. We look forward to the 'King and Rackham classical duo' coming to perform again very soon.

The Magic Table

We are delighted to announce that we have just had a Magic Table installed, which is an interactive light projector, designed to support residents living with dementia by keeping them engaged through specialised games.

The light projections respond to hand and arm movement, promoting movement, allowing residents to stay stimulated and, most of all, have fun!

You can read more about it on this page.
