Activities at Glebefields Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Harvest Competition

Last week, our residents thoroughly enjoyed making our salt dough Wheat Sheaf for Harvest. We spent a total of 6 hours tirelessly rolling balls of dough, ‘worms’ of dough and many other shapes on our residents' ‘production line’.

Each resident had their own job to do and we came together as a team to create this beautiful master piece! We watched the Great British Bake off together that week as it was bread week, as well as some tutorials on YouTube to make sure we had the technique just right! Fun was had by all in this lovely competition!

Happy Birthday!

Resident, Myrtle celebrated her 95th birthday last week and was showered with gifts and flowers from all of her friends and family. Myrtle enjoyed a visit from her son in the garden and enjoyed a lovely cake with everyone here at Glebefields. When asked how old she was, Myrtle insisted she was “59 not 95, you are certainly as young as you feel.”  Happy Birthday Myrtle!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Staff at Glebefields enjoyed an internal coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. We held a cake baking competition and all staff made a fantastic effort to make and create some wonderful treats.

There was also a competition to guess how many sprinkles on the Macmillan Colin the Caterpillar, which many enjoyed.

Our Kitchen Assistant, Teresa, had handmade some post-it note holders to sell on the day, also to help raise funds.

It was a wonderful effort from the whole team to come together in order to support the cause, despite being unable to extend to the community. We were still successful in raising some money, which is yet to be counted, as donations are still coming in, but a massive thankyou to all who took part!

Rum Reggae Fun

Residents enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon with rum cocktails for our reggae afternoon! Fun and laughter filled the room as we sang and enjoyed our home made cocktail concoctions together. It was lovely to enjoy a refreshing drink together after all this hot weather!

World Chocolate Day

Residents enjoyed a fun filled day for world chocolate day this year with chocolate related activities taking place throughout the day. We explored the history of the chocolate bar and how the Cadbury's wrapper has changed throughout the years, followed by a chocolatey quiz and finally making our own chocolate fridge cake in the afternoon.

Residents enjoyed smashing and crushing digestive biscuits before adding raisins and marshmallows and pouring in plenty of melted chocolate! We even made a separate diabetic friendly one so that every resident could enjoy some.

Laughter and Smiles at Glebefields

Residents on our Memory Lane community enjoyed an afternoon filled with Abba and dancing on their new smart television! Laughter and smiles filled the room as we became the real 'Dancing queens' and sang our hearts out. Residents sat down afterwards for a cool drink and a cake to refresh after all of the activity.
