Activities at Glebefields Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Reaching 1st Year Anniversary

Glebefields celebrated a very special first year anniversary today.

We have a resident, Carole Cuthbert who came to Glebefields on 22nd March 2020 in need a nursing home after spending time in a hospice. Her family were told she had a few days to live and they were utterly devastated. Fast forward a year and not only is Carole doing better than ever, she is our resident ambassador and we have all celebrated her 1st year anniversary since moving in.

She enjoyed a lovely pamper sessions and a nice hair cut by one of  the staff member’s and she was cooked her favourite Indian meal. Carole cannot thank our Nurses and Carers enough here at Glebefields in Drayton. Nisha Shaji, General Manager said ‘Carole is a fantastic ambassador and is a lovely resident to have in our home. We are expecting a brand new refurbishment this year and we cannot wait to introduced more residents into the home like Carole’

Diwali

We celebrated Diwali at Glebefields in style this year with no light left turned off. Staff and residents enjoyed a homemade buffet of traditional sweets and treats whilst gazing at the wonderful lights and decorations. Staff even dressed in magnificent saris and authentic Indian attire.

Aside from being an incredibly magical event for all, this was a very special afternoon for one resident in particular, who took a trip down memory lane to fulfil her longing desires. Resident, Sheila, was born and raised in India before moving to the UK after the war. Sheila was incredibly emotional to be able to taste her favourite Indian delights again for the first time since 1952! Sheila was transported back to her childhood, listening to her favourite music and devouring homemade jelebi and barfi

This was an incredibly special wish to fulfil, and Sheila was blown away by the efforts we had all put in to ensure a truly wonderful and authentic experience.

Bonfire Night

This year, for bonfire night, our residents chose the eco-friendly option to not have fireworks and not disturb our lovely horses in the fields surrounding us. However, this didn't mean that the fun stopped indoors!

There was firework crafts in the morning, to chocolate apple making and Guy Fawkes creating in the afternoon. We papier-mâché a full head and hands, and even added a wig and hat for a very lifelike Guy Fawkes.

Residents had a fun-filled day complete with hot dogs and a glow stick party as the sun went down. We listened to lively music and danced with our glow sticks before tasting our chocolate apple creations, and even watched our own display on the television, proving that we truly could bring the outdoors indoors! Residents even expressed that they would love to do this every year.

Harvest Festival Zoom Service

Glebefields were graced with a wonderful Harvest Service from our local reverend this week via zoom. Lindy had prepared a wonderful journey for us during our zoom session complete with trips around the world to find where all of our produce and Harvest comes from.

Activities co-ordinator, Emily had prepared a platter of all of the fruits and produce that Lindy discussed in the service, and passed them to the residents as she talked about them in each country, allowing us to be thankful and appreciate them. The service was complete with some beautiful hymns and prayers and it was a lovely way to connect the community and our residents.
