Activities at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Our activity coordinator provides our home with a fun-packed weekly programme to engage all residents. Past activities include bread making, pottery, knitting, and card making. Not only do we run regular exercise programmes for the residents but we also have our regular entertainers come in to entertain our residents and their families. The activity coordinator visits residents on a one-to-one basis, for a chat, manicure and hand massage. The activity co-ordinator said "Residents love the one-to-ones and especially enjoy the manicure and hand massage, as not only is it stimulating but it boosts their confidence and pride in their appearance.''

My Name is Linda and I am one of the Activities Co-ordinators at Dudwell St. Mary care home.

I joined Dudwell St Mary in April 2008 as a Housekeeping Assistant and later became the Head of Housekeeping.  In 2018 I then became an activities co-ordinator where I brought lots of new exciting ideas to the role.

I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents’ faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work.

Life at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY'

Dudwell St Mary care home, in Burwash, got in the Christmas spirit on Christmas Day for the residents.

Christmas day was in full swing with a visit from Father Christmas and his elves. All the residents received a visit from Father Christmas and a gift. Residents also enjoyed a feast of festive foods prepared by the home’s chef, Neil.

General Manager, Emma Rich-Spice said: “Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year and our fantastic residents love to get festive so we’ve pulled out all the stops.  It is so lovely to see them all getting into the Christmas spirit, it’s definitely my favourite time of year.”

Janet, resident at Dudwell St Mary said: “It has been a lovely day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Christmas spirit. I really enjoyed seeing Father Christmas”

Decorating the home ready for Christmas

We made a start on the Christmas decorating this afternoon. One resident was more than happy to help with the tree and put up the decorations around the lounge. She also picked out some tinsel and baubles for her room.

Dancing along to Rosie's Retro Rhythms

We definitely got into the festive spirit this afternoon with Rosie's Retro Rhythms. We had an afternoon of singing and dancing to some of our favourite Christmas tunes.

Making Mince Pies

The smell of freshly cooked mince pies filled Dudwell St Mary this afternoon. Memories of making our own mince pies, Christmas puddings and Christmas cake as we reminisced of all the baking we used to do at Christmas. One of our relatives even rolled the pastry out for us.

Visit from Burwash & Etchingham Scouts

We spent a lovely evening with the Burwash and Etchingham Scouts. We played a game of Christmas bingo, then we spent time chatting finding out what the scouts get up to and we finished with a festive sing song.

Making Pizza

We had great fun making our own pizzas today.  We chose our favourite toppings as you can see some residents like pineapple on their pizzas.  They then enjoyed eating them for their supper.
