Activities at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Our activity coordinator provides our home with a fun-packed weekly programme to engage all residents. Past activities include bread making, pottery, knitting, and card making. Not only do we run regular exercise programmes for the residents but we also have our regular entertainers come in to entertain our residents and their families. The activity coordinator visits residents on a one-to-one basis, for a chat, manicure and hand massage. The activity co-ordinator said "Residents love the one-to-ones and especially enjoy the manicure and hand massage, as not only is it stimulating but it boosts their confidence and pride in their appearance.''

Linda Lawes

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Linda and I am one of the Activities Co-ordinators at Dudwell St. Mary care home.

I joined Dudwell St Mary in April 2008 as a Housekeeping Assistant and later became the Head of Housekeeping.  In 2018 I then became an activities co-ordinator where I brought lots of new exciting ideas to the role.

I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents’ faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work.

As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Life at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Tour de Barchester

We had a fantastic day at our sister homes, as we welcomed Tour de Barchester.

Now in its second year, Tour de Barchester took place from the 6-9th June. This 4 day challenge sees the team cycle 276 miles along the south coast, visiting 15 of our care homes on the way! Raising money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, there couldn’t be a better cause.

We had a lovely day listening to music in the garden, drinking wine/beer and eating some fabulous food.

A little tipple in the garden

Today we spent some time in the garden enjoying the sunshine with a glass of sherry.

Musical afternoon with Lest We Forget

We had the fabulous ladies from  Lest We Forget military charity come and entertain us today. We sang along to lots of patriotic songs while listening to Victoria playing the violin and listening to the amazing Linda singing.

DIY

One of our residents Brian, suggested our balcony furniture could do with a bit of redecoration. With this said, he got to work  and was more than happy to make himself useful and help stain the tables.

Gardening Club

We have started planting our plants this week, as well as making some hanging baskets and potting plants into pots.  The afternoon was spent with lots of advice, ideas and laughter.

Visit to Ashburnham Place

On a lovely sunny morning we took a trip out to Ashburnham Place enjoying the amazing gardens and finishing with tea and cake in The Orangery.
