Hi, my name is Laurence, and I am the General Manager here at Dudwell St Mary. Welcome to our website!
Caring has been part of my life for more than 40 years, so perhaps it was inevitable that I’d be drawn toward a managerial role in an actual care home.
My career started as a nurse in the NHS, before I moved on to become a military nurse with the RAF. Looking back, I didn’t really have a master plan, although my sister was a nurse and it is from her I must have got the initial idea. I became qualified in 1981 – male nurses were a rare breed back then, but I’ve loved the journey and haven’t looked back!
The past 10 years have seen me working in healthcare management, so when I was told about the General Manager position at Dudwell St Mary, I jumped at the opportunity to join this fantastic home.
I’m very proud to be an ambassador for Barchester and for Dudwell St Mary, and to be a guide for our residents, their families and the staffing team. I sometimes feel like I work in a home full of grandparents, and although it’s a well-worn phrase, I feel it’s true here – we’re like and extended family.
Although I’ve only been in this role since March 2021, I feel passionately that if we’re not moving forwards, we’re going backwards. So I hope I can help create the building blocks of achievement that will continue to make Dudwell St Mary Care Home a happier, stronger home for many years to come.
Hi, my name is Joao, and I am the Deputy Manager here at Dudwell St Mary.
I have been working for Barchester Healthcare since 2011. I started as a Nurse and progressed to the role of Head of Unit, then to Deputy Manager. My position involves supporting residents to ensure that they are as comfortable as possible at Dudwell St Mary.
I loved my job and enjoy team work; I am always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that the care and support we provide exceeds the expectations of those we care for and their loved ones.
My name is Soraia Cunha and I have been a part of Dudwell's family since 2011. I started my role as an RGN, and I am currently a Clinical Lead. As part of my role I ensure that the care that our residents receive is of highest standard and is delivered in a person centered approach. I believe in working as a team and I enjoy working alongside my team, providing support and guidance when needed.I really enjoy what I do and I always try to make sure everybody in our home is safe and happy. In my free time I enjoy travelling and being in contact with nature.
I have been part of Barchester since 2015, working as a Nurse here at Dudwell St Mary. I am part of an extraordinary team that succeeds in this challenging, but very rewarding environment. In October 2018, I was promoted to the role of Head of Unit, and then to Clinical Lead in 2019. I am grateful to have the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of residents each and every day.
Hi, my name is Caroline, and I joined the team here at Dudwell in February 2011. My role as Administrator involves managing payroll, accounts and HR, in addition to the financial and business systems in the home, working closely with the General Manager.
I enjoy meeting residents old and new, along with their loved ones, and building these relationships.
I am supported by two members of the admin team to ensure that we deliver a high standard of work.
Hello my name is Mohammed. I am the admin assistant here at Dudwell St Mary. I have worked here since 2016. Previous to this role I was a minister of a Mosque. So this is a very different position for me. However one I enjoy very much. Every day is busy, eventful and always different. Getting to know the residents and their families, knowing that we are making a positive difference to their loved ones lives is very rewarding.
I have worked at Dudwell St Mary for ten years in my role as Admin Assistant/Receptionist and in that time I have seen Dudwell change and grow.
My role involves working with both staff and residents and is very busy and varied but I really enjoy being in the Reception meeting and greeting both Residents and their families. I enjoy my job very much and I am lucky to work with a really good bunch of people.
I work part time which enables me to spend time with my lovely family and indulge in my love of horses and dogs and anything to do with the great outdoors.
My name is Lucie, I joined Dudwell St Mary in August 2020 as one of the Activity coordinators.
I have 10 years previous experience working in a care home. I enjoy the interaction with the residents and have built good relationships with them. My sole purpose is to make a positive contribution to their day. We offer many group sessions and also one to one for those who prefer or need this.
We have a fun atmosphere and make sure every resident is involved in our activities.
Tina has been Head Chef at Dudwell St Mary for fifteen years and enjoys cooking for the residents, especially when there are themed lunches and special functions. Prior to coming to Dudwell Tina worked as a Chef in Hotels in Bexhill and Battle. Tina has also guided her team to achieve the Environmental Health Service 5 Stars in food hygiene.
This role is varied and challenging; I strive to keep the home environment up to the highest standard possible and to ensure that both residents and staff can enjoy their surroundings safely.
I started this role in July 2020 after working as the Maintenance Manager of a holiday park for 6 years.
My name is Kuda Munyira, I joined the Dudwell St Mary team in August 2016 as an overseas nurse. In these years I have enjoyed the diverse cultural environment, hinged on the principles of respect, inclusion and tolerance. I am passionate about my role which involves delivering quality person centred care and support to our residents and their families.
My name is Martha. I have been working for Barchester for over four years now. I love being part of this fantastic team. We all really support each other, which makes it a joy to support the people in our care too.
Hello my name is Jay, and I joined the team here at Dudwell St Mary as Head Housekeeper in December 2019, and am responsible for all housekeeping and laundry staff.
I have previously worked in the care industry for 10 years now and bring a wealth of experience to my current role. I am looking forward to forging new relationships with residents and families to ensure their rooms are as comfortable and as homely as they could be.
I take great pride in what I do and am enjoying my role. I work within a great team and friendly environment and together we work hard to ensure that the home is kept looking beautiful and clean.
When I am not at work, I enjoy being with my 2 young children who keep me very busy with little time for hobbies!
I'm Edwina, I have been with Dudwell St Mary since January 2021. I worked as a registered Nurse in my home town of Ghana before this role. Barchester has given me lots of training. I feel I am able to perform my role to the best of my ability. The Residents are all lovely, courteous and show a deep appreciation for the care and support we give.
I have been working at Dudwell St Mary for over 20 years and have gained both an NVQ level 2 and level 3 in Care during this time. I became a Team Leader in 2016, and I am now a Care Practitioner. I have two daughters, the youngest of whom works here as well as a Care Assistant!
Hi, I'm Caroline. I work within the memory lane community at Dudwell, supporting those living with dementia. Previous to this role i worked in the community caring for people in their own homes. Although I enjoyed that role I knew I wanted to get to know people on a more personal level. Working at Dudwell has given me that and also taught me so much about dementia and how to best support people, and give them the best care possible.
Hi, I have worked for Barchester and Dudwell St Mary for two years now. starting in 2018. I work in the housekeeping department. My role includes keeping the home safe and clean for everyone. I really enjoy my role as every day is different. I take time to get to know the residents and also their lives before they lived with us. I worked as a carer in the community for 13 years so understand all elements of the role.
I have worked at Dudwell St Mary for 22 years. I am now a senior carer. I love my job because of the satisfaction it gives me. Being appreciated by both the Staff and the residents. I have an NVQ level 2 in care. Level 3 for end of life care. Level 3 in first aid, and Advanced carer during Covid.
Meet Kate, She has just taken on a role as our Resident ambassador here at Dudwell. She is 93 years young and lived here for over three years now. Her long career as a Head Teacher in the heart of London means her need to feel needed and helpful is still very much a part of her personality. We always encourage and support independence and well being. So this is the perfect role for her.
