Senior General Manager
Hi, my name is Sam, and I am the Senior General Manager here at Dudwell St Mary. Welcome to our website!
I started to work in the care industry in 1998; I worked for an organisation called Southdown Housing and supported people with learning disabilities in their own homes – one-to-one – due to the nature of their complex needs. During this time I also supported a woman with mental health needs and became interested in this area, as I would accompany her when attending a day centre once a week. I volunteered to do group work in the day centre and then, when a vacancy became available, I applied for the position and was successful.
I also worked at Brighton Family Service – a family substance misuse rehabilitation unit for parents and children – from 2002 to 2008.
I developed an interest in training and development and I worked for an organisation called Revolutions Training, whom I had completed my NVQ Level 4 and Registered Manager Award qualification with. I worked with them until 2009 when I took the opportunity to become self-employed, and spent the first six months of this managing a day service for people with learning disabilities.
Following this, I then worked freelance as a trainer and an assessor for qualifications in Health and Social Care. I was also the main trainer in dementia qualifications level II and III for a number of organisations across Sussex.
I have also received a Humanitarian Award from the Suffolk Police Constabulary for saving a man’s life in 2013 by administering CPR when he had had a heart attack whilst driving – he lived because of this action. As a result, my partner and I made the front page of the Ipswich Star newspaper for our bravery.
