Activities at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Our activity coordinator provides our home with a fun-packed weekly programme to engage all residents. Past activities include bread making, pottery, knitting, and card making. Not only do we run regular exercise programmes for the residents but we also have our regular entertainers come in to entertain our residents and their families. The activity coordinator visits residents on a one-to-one basis, for a chat, manicure and hand massage. The activity co-ordinator said "Residents love the one-to-ones and especially enjoy the manicure and hand massage, as not only is it stimulating but it boosts their confidence and pride in their appearance.''

Linda Lawes

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Linda and I am one of the Activities Co-ordinators at Dudwell St. Mary care home.

I joined Dudwell St Mary in April 2008 as a Housekeeping Assistant and later became the Head of Housekeeping.  In 2018 I then became an activities co-ordinator where I brought lots of new exciting ideas to the role.

I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents’ faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work.

As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Life at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Birthday Celebrations

Today we celebrated one of our residents birthday. We all got together for sherry, music and nibbles.

International Men's Day

We celebrated International Men's Day with a beer and chatting about men who had influenced our lives. We all agreed our fathers were our biggest influence on our lives but also teachers, brothers and Charles Babbage who invented the computer.

Elvis was in the building

Elvis was in the house today. Lots of singing and dancing and we were all shook up.

A visit from Dallington Primary School

We were pleased to welcome Dallington Primary School to Dudwell this week. Residents enjoyed spending time with them and sharing stories. One resident asked if they could sing them a song and they were more than happy to do this. They will be returning in a few weeks to perform a carol concert which residents are really looking forward to.

Animal Sanctuary Visit

We all know how our residents benefit from animal therapy as you can see by these smiling faces. We had  a local animal sanctuary visit with Lady Gaga the long haired guinea pig and Rueben the rat.  Lots of cuddles and reminiscing about pets that our residents have had.

Taking Gizmo for a walk

Bringing animals into the home always lifts spirits. One resident was more than happy to take the lead and take Gizmo round to see everybody. She then took him for a walk outside and said she was enjoying the exercise too!
