Activities at Crandon Springs Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Katherine Cork

Activities Assistant

Hello, my name is Kath and I’m the Activities Assistant here at Crandon Springs.

As part of the Activities and lifestyle enrichment team, I help in organising our daily activities, ensuring that all of our residents have a variety of activities to choose from each day. I love enriching our residents’ lives by providing meaningful and engaging activities and, having been both a teacher and care assistant in the past, have a wealth of experience behind me. You'll rarely find me without a smile and I'm very family orientated, and I love how both the residents' and colleagues Crandon Springs feel like a second family to me!

Life at Crandon Springs Care Home

U3A Meeting

Crandon Springs welcomed our local U3A Wells Committee through our doors. The local U3A group utilised one of our many dining rooms to host their monthly meeting.

Our head chef ensured refreshments were avaliable and a very large selection of fresh home made cakes and scones were on offer. The group has a choice of carrot cake, fruit loaf and a cream tea on offer!

Across the UK members of the U3A clubs are learning, staying active and having fun in later life. It's friendly, local, social and open to all.

We look forward to welcoming back the U3A committee in October for the next meeting. Thank you for choosing Crandon Springs.

Our 100 Year Old Ballerina!

OUR 100 YEAR OLD BALLERINA! CARE HOME RESIDENTS CELEBRATE LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS WITH ENGLISH NATIONAL BALLET

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Crandon Springs care home in Wells were treated to a unique performance from English National Ballet’s Philharmonic Orchestra to celebrate Last Night of the Proms. In the picture attached you will see one of our residents, Emma, Emma is 100 years old and is showcasing her ballerina portrait from her youth.

Residents joined members of English National Ballet’s Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Music Director, Gavin Sutherland, to celebrate Last Night of the Proms. They listened and danced along as members of the orchestra took them on a magical, musical journey. English National Ballet Philharmonic is made up of many of the country’s top musicians, and boasts considerable experience in all forms of music-making. With insights and anecdotes into what it takes to conduct an orchestra for a world-class ballet company, this special concert for Barchester Care Homes got everyone’s feet tapping, arms waving and hearts singing!

Fleur Derbyshire-Fox, English National Ballet’s Director of Engagement said: “We are delighted to be able to share the outstanding work of our talented Philharmonic Orchestra with Barchester’s residents and staff.  The iconic music of the Last Night of the Proms is so rousing and evocative, we felt certain this was a concert that would resonate with the residents and get everyone singing and dancing along.”

Lucy Tomlinson, Resident Experience Manager for Barchester Healthcare, commented: ““We love working with our wonderful partners like English National Ballet to bring a wide range of fantastic experiences into our homes for all to enjoy.  The session today was just wonderful and so nostalgic, our residents loved reminiscing about what the music meant to them.

“Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active and socially connected, providing a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities,” Lucy added.

General Manager, Natalie Deverall said: “Today has been such a treat, our residents have all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  A lot of our residents have a lifetime of dancing memories and to see such a beautiful photograph of Emma really was a beautiful moment.  The orchestra sounded absolutely brilliant and we loved hearing their stories about what it is like to perform at that level.”

We’re making our homes as safe as possible and will ensure that all new residents and staff are vaccinated before moving in or working in our homes.  Please do give us a call on 01749 685180 if you are looking for care or need any further help.

Pizza Making

Our residents here at Crandon Springs have spent the morning prepping and preparing pizzas for our colleagues here.

Residents began by preparing the dough with tomato puree, allowing our head chef to precook the pizza bases. Later on, our residents have selected their favourite toppings and each create a masterpiece! The toppings included fresh basil, local cheese, mushroom and exotic pineapple.

The pizza's have been enjoyed by the resident themselves and shared with the care team to say a big thank you for their continued hard work, every single day. Our residents love baking and cooking so this was a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy.

The Crandon Arms

Our residents here at Crandon Springs have been transported to an in house pub - The Crandon Arms!

Our residents were served a bar selection of Ale, Beer, Pimms or Wine from behind the bar in the kitchen. The drinks flowed beautifully whilst our peri chef, Gary prepared a pub lunch with a touch of luxury!

Our menu today consisted of locally sourced chicken breast or gammon with triple cooked home made chips and vegetables, just like a real pub dinner.

Our registered manager Natalie said "It was lovely to have the opportunity to bring such a typical outing to our residents home. They enjoyed a choice of wine, outstanding food and even some pub classic music all in the safety of their own home."
