Activities at Crandon Springs Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Katherine Cork

Activities Assistant

Hello, my name is Kath and I’m the Activities Assistant here at Crandon Springs.

As part of the Activities and lifestyle enrichment team, I help in organising our daily activities, ensuring that all of our residents have a variety of activities to choose from each day. I love enriching our residents’ lives by providing meaningful and engaging activities and, having been both a teacher and care assistant in the past, have a wealth of experience behind me. You'll rarely find me without a smile and I'm very family orientated, and I love how both the residents' and colleagues Crandon Springs feel like a second family to me!

Somerset Lavender Farm

Our residents here at Crandon Springs have recently enjoyed a trip to our local Somerset Lavender Farm on our mini bus!

A group of residents were accompanied by our activities co-ordinator, Tabby on a beautiful sunny day to enjoy nature's finest flowers.

Somerset Lavender Farm harvest lavender for essential oils. Guests have been visiting Somerset Lavender Farm since 2006. They have recently planted 6.5 acres of sunflowers which have come to bloom!!

Our residents absolutely loved the experience and look forward to visiting the farm again. Many of our residents have purchased small lavender samples for their bedrooms back at Crandon Springs to enjoy too.

Classic Car Show

What a day! Crandon Springs Care Home would like to say thank you to the 50 classic cars and many, many spectators who came to support our first ever classic car show.

With the sun shining, our residents and spectators explored the large range of classic cars showcased in our car park. Everyone enjoyed socialising and admiring the cars whilst our head chef provided American style food for all and an ice cream van too.

One of our residents commented “I want to thank you for hosting such an amazing event. It has really taken me back to my youth, I was a apart of many motor groups and use to be a rally girl!”

Crandon Springs would like to thank every single person who supported our event from local spectators, car enthusiasts and even the local police! As promised at the event, we will ensure this is an annual get together!

Pet Therapy!

Our residents here at Crandon Springs absolutely love animals. In one of our most recent resident meetings we discussed how much our residents adore pet therapy.

This week Crandon Springs has been introduced to Reggie and he was very much a hit! Reggie not only enjoyed our gardens but also 1-2-1 visits with our residents.

Animal assisted activities is a growing field that uses dogs and other animals to help people with health problems such as heart disease and mental health conditions.

Clay Modelling Course

Our residents here at Crandon Springs have been enjoying an afternoon of clay making. We had local artist Philippa to visit the home.

Philippa Threlfall has been making relief murals in ceramic since the 1960s. Together with her husband and partner Kennedy Collings she has completed over one hundred major works on sites all over the United Kingdom and overseas. Some of these were made for private clients, but most were commissioned for display in public situations - shopping precincts, banks, building societies, an airport, hospital and office developments. They lived and worked in Wells, Somerset, where they had a medieval cottage within the Liberty of Wells Cathedral.

Beach Day!

August the 30th our residents enjoyed celebrating National Beach Day. Our plan had been to visit our local seaside town for some ice cream and fish and chips! However, with a hint British weather and a high chance of rain we decided to bring the beach to us!

Our Life Enrichment Co-ordinators Tabby and Tracey transformed our dining room into the seaside! The residents enjoyed a freshly cooked fish and chip meal followed by traditional ice cream. The room was decorated with a range of shells, beach balls and fishing nets!

Our residents have alot of happy memories at the seaside and it was great to add to those existing memories!

National Dog Day

Our residents here at Crandon Springs have recently enjoyed celebrating National Dog Day!

To celebrate the prettiest pooches and most handsome hounds our residents helped colleagues to create a treat filled hamper for our local Kennels.

A large hamper of toys, treats and other essentials were donated to Woodborough Kennels this week for our local dogs to enjoy.
