Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home

Lest we forget

In recognition of Remembrance day, the activities team and residents have been working together to create an arch of poppies.  Residents have thoroughly enjoyed painting and colouring in the poppies to create a window display for everyone to see when arriving at the home.

Resident Eric said “ I really enjoyed myself taking part in this activity and it is a really nice touch to the front of the home”

Libby Harte “ It was an honour to create these poppies with our residents and to hear about their personal remembrance story’s too. The display looks really good and the residents are really proud of themselves.”

Spook-tastic time for Residents

Residents at Cookridge Court enjoyed a fun filled day celebrating Halloween alongside the homes care team.  There was fun and laughter during games, dancing alongside indulging in some fantastic party food especially prepared by the homes hospitality team which was washed down with a festive tipple of their choice.

The room was filled with laughter and everyone had a beaming smile on their face – it has thoroughly been a Halloween party to remember.   Resident, Jean Harrison said “ I have had a wonderful time, I have laughed non-stop, enjoyed the lovely food, danced with the staff. It has really made my day”

Home host community competiton

At Cookridge Court we love celebrating Halloween with a party here at the home. Unfortunately this year, we cannot host our Annual Halloween party so have decided to bring Halloween to you virtually.

We would like as many children & adults as possible to send in their spookiest Halloween best carved pumpkins and send us their photos for residents and staff to judge the winners. We will be holding a small Halloween themed afternoon for our residents to enjoy viewing your entries and choosing the best!

Photos or emails with the name and age should be emailed to cookridgecourt.activities@barchester.com by Monday 2nd November 2020.

Group judging by staff and residents at Cookridge Court Care Home will take place on, Monday 2nd November 2020 with a slideshow of all entries on our projector and voters will fill out slips to select their winners.

Cooking up a storm!

The staff and residents at Cookridge Court Care home have been having cookery sessions from our Divisional chef of the year winner, Sinead Ruddock in making and designing delicious homemade pizza’s. Sinead recently won Divisional chef of the year and with the help of the activity team we felt we needed to put Sinead’s excellent cookery skills to use by hosting Cookery sessions with our resident’s.

The session proved to be a real hit with residents who enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon with a competition of the best designed pizza between the residents.

One Resident said: “I really enjoyed attending the cookery session. I am always up for trying new things. Cooking wasn’t something I enjoyed growing up but I thoroughly had fun attending this one.” Sinead Ruddock (Head Chef) “It was lovely to work with the activity team and deliver a cookery session. I myself thoroughly enjoyed spending some individual time with the residents and listening to their stories about recipes they used to cook for their families.”

Residents say Ciao to virtual trip

Taste buds have been tingling with this month’s Italian Cuisine themed night! Delicious meals are an important part of the day and to jazz things up, residents decided they would like to host a monthly ‘World Cuisine Night’.  Due to the ongoing pandemic Residents are unable to venture out into the community to experience these different cuisines – so the team have brought Italy to Cookridge!

At Cookridge Court have teamed up as a whole home approach to go above and beyond to create a fun, memorable and stimulating activity for our residents that was available to all.  The evening was a tremendous success and it was a delight to see the smiles on the Residents faces.

The homes hospitality team whipped up a mouth-watering feast with a choice of different Italian dishes from pizza & pasta to Meatballs &  Bruschetta and accompaniments all washed down with Prosecco, Italian beer or something less alcoholic!

Italian World Cuisine night went down a treat and we’re looking forward to our resident meeting to see what everyone decides to put on the menu for next month!
