Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Fröhliche Weihnachten

This year, we brought the Christmas German Market to Cookridge Court. The residents enjoyed the festivities, including Christmas music and traditional German food & beer.

The room was filled with joy, laughter & festive spirits. Everyone had a wonderful afternoon!

It's beginning to look like Christmas

Resident, Eileen was thrilled to help dress the Christmas trees within the home to bring festivities to everyone.  Eileen who was delighted to be adding baubles to the tree, and used to manage her own care home in Blackpool. She retired at the age of 84, when Eileen received a letter from Prince Charles in recognition of her tremendous work.

Decorating the Christmas trees brought back many  happy memories for Eileen, as it reminded her of the times when she would do this in the care home that she managed. You could see the joy in Eileen’s face, decorating and producing such a wonderful tree.

Alzheimer's National Elf Day

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!  On Friday 4th December the team at Cookridge Court got into the ‘Elfy spirit’ for the Alzheimer’s Society 's National event - Elf Day. Both staff and resident's found it thoroughly entertaining to see everyone dressed up and having fun with many getting in to character in their colourful outfits.

Cookridge Court have a fun filled Christmas themed activity program running throughout December to bring joy, laughter and make memorable memories for everyone as they countdown to Christmas.

A taste of the oriental

Residents of Cookridge Court enjoy their popular themed evenings and whilst it may not be Chinese New Year residents at the home enjoy a shared love of Chinese food so there was no better excuse to create a sociable evening where everyone enjoyed Chinese food together!

It proved to be a very enjoyable evening and a great success with the room decorated with Chinese ceiling and table decorations and gentle background Chinese music was played.

The taste buds were alight with the many oriental flavours especially prepared by the homes hospitality team.

Young fundraiser surprises residents

Young hero and fundraiser, Michael Bottomley paid the residents a visit at Cookridge Court with a surprise, to hand deliver gift packages. Michael aged 12, Sophia aged 10 & Tommy aged 3 had collected toiletries within the community and personally made them up into hampers, gifting them to our residents. This was such a lovely gesture to be made towards the residents at Cookridge Court and with everyone in lockdown, our residents really appreciated such a heart-warming gift from the amazing people of the community.

Cookridge Court would like to say a huge thankyou to Michael, Sophia and Tommy for your thoughts and generosity, you are doing such an amazing thing and putting smiles on so many people’s faces.

Home say fond farewell to Housekeeper

Residents and staff at Cookridge Court said a sad but lovely goodbye to their friend and the homes housekeeper,  Eva Wardman after 10-years loyal service at the home.  Eva at the age of 73 had decided it was time to finally take up her retirement. Eva has played an important role in the Cookridge Court family and everyone will miss her but wish her a long and happy retirement.

As the final day appeared, the home had organised a surprise party to say good luck and good bye, Eva’s had a wonderful day and even appeared to have a little tear in her eye as she said “Thank you for the tremendous support from everyone over the years. I will miss you all.”
