Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Residents enjoy a trip down under

Residents at Cookridge Court in Leeds have been discovering all things Antipodean in celebration of Australia Day, which took place on Tuesday 26th January.

Residents took part in Australian-themed activities throughout the day including a virtual trip down under including a tour of Sydney Opera House/Sydney harbour/Ayres Rock/Bondi beach/the rainforest and looking at Aboriginal art which everyone really enjoyed.  The favourite activity of the day was however a tasting of Australian wines along with some Australian-themed snacks whipped up by head chef, Sinead.

Keeping residents connected

Residents are overjoyed at Cookridge Court care home in Leeds, as Barchester Healthcare has implemented an indoor visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones in the upcoming months, in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer.

There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment. The visiting suite has been designed with both comfort and safety in mind, and has been recently adapted from a room which is accessible internally by residents and externally by visitors. The room is similar to a living room with comfortable furnishings, and heated to create a welcoming and warm environment, and has an intercom system fitted, so residents can clearly communicate, and engage in conversation, whilst being able to see their friends and family through a Perspex glass divider, fitted for safety to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Infection control protocols and safe social distancing are in place for every visit, including a hand sanitizer station before entry. Cleaning at Cookridge Court care home will take place after each visit to ensure chairs, seats, hard surfaces including windowsills, and the Perspex glass divider are wiped down appropriately.

Burns Celebrations

At Cookridge Court we have a number of residents with Scottish heritage and we were delighted to be able to celebration the Scottish tradition of Burns Night.

Residents enjoyed a Scottish fayre of haggis, neeps and tatties alongside reminiscing of their favourite places in Scotland whilst others shared their favourite places which they had visited and listening to classical bagpipe music.

Throughout the day the home held a poetry club where residents heard some of Robert Burns poetry, including the dressing to a haggis, a red red nose and Tam O’Shanter.  Everyone enjoyed adding a touch of Scottish tradition to their day and look forward to their next themed day!

Do you want to build a snowman?

It's been a very snowy day at Cookridge Court today.  The team built our winter mascot, while the resident's watched and directed from the warmth of the windows. It was lovely to hear the resident's snow stories from their younger days
