Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Home partners with local college

Cookridge Court Care Home in Leeds has teamed up with Leeds City College for a newly launched pen pal scheme, connecting residents within the home to the local community through letters written by the college’s students.

Residents of Cookridge Court, which is run by Barchester Healthcare, have been sent ‘letters of kindness’ by the students of Leeds City College, and are making new friends through the inter-generational scheme.

Top O’ the mornin’ to ya!

Residents have been celebrating in style with a St Patricks Day quiz, watching video clips from the amazing River dance and reminiscing over Irish historian traditions.

The day was then been brought together through traditional Irish cuisine and a nice, cold tipple of Guinness, served by our amazing hospitality team.

Happy St Patricks Day from everyone at Cookridge Court!    “

Families reconnect

For residents at Cookridge Court care home in Leeds, the long awaited reunion with one family member has become a reality, as one single named visitor is now allowed to visit each resident in their bedroom.

There has been much anticipation of this moment by families and residents alike.  Guidance was issued by the Government on March 4 and Barchester Healthcare, who run Cookridge care home, is proceeding with a safe and cautious approach to visiting. Strict protocols are in place with all visitors required to have a negative Lateral Flow Device test result before being allowed into the home, and infection control measures and social distancing in place for every visit, with hand holding allowed but not recommended.

Despite the need for testing and social distancing, it was still welcome news for so many residents and their family members to be able to meet in the comfort of their bedroom. Residents and their relatives enjoyed getting together and catching up face to face.
