Activities at Collingtree Park Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as they can, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join in with activities and events as often as they can.

Skye Summerton

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Skye and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Collingtree Park care home. My role is to enrich the lives of our residents by providing stimulating and person-centred activities. We offer something for everyone, including arts and crafts, games and live entertainment including visits to places of interest in the local area. I love to provide one-to-one time and sensory activities with residents who need a little more support.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular meetings with family and friends I can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining the Collingtree Park community.

We are an animal friendly care home with a resident cat called 'Bella' and daily visits from our residents' family dogs. We understand the power of PET Therapy and welcome animals of all sizes from mini beasts to the quarterly Alpaca visits a local farm.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Life at Collingtree Park Care Home

DIY

DIY

Our Gentleman here at Collingtree Park all love to help out around the home, and never pass on the opportunity to do some DIY! This week we jazzed up a wooden dresser with some new knobs. Our residents loved getting stuck in and showing our maintenance man Simon how it’s done!

World Animal Day

World Animal Day

The Residents of Collingtree Park celebrated World Animal Day with a lovely visit from Animal Edutainment. Walter, Animal Edutaiment’s main ranger who is a keen animal lover brought along a variety of animals and provided an exciting handling workshop. Our activities Coordinator specifically choice a variety of animals that would provide the most stimulation for our residents. The animals that came to visit Collingtree Park included a Chinchilla, African Pygmy Hedgehog, Corn Snake, Herman’s Tortoise, Netherland Dward Rabbit, Lesser Tnerec, Tiger Salamander, Reticulated, Gargoyle Gecko and Australian Water Dragon. Our residents were fearless and did not hesitate to hold and touch the animals, one of our residents even said ‘If I kiss the frog will it turn into a prince’ which we all had a good giggle about. We are hoping Walter and the animals from Animal Edutainment will visit us again soon!

Musical Entertainment

Musical Entertainment

Martin the Music Man came to visit the residents here at Collingtree Park. Martin is always a huge hit with the residents, and brings along instruments for everyone to get involved. Whether it is playing an instrument, singing along or tapping their feet to the music, our residents always enjoy a variety of musical entertainment.

Indoor Gardening

Indoor Gardening

Here at Collingtree park we have many residents that are keen gardeners. When we cannot get out into our beautiful gardens with raised beds, we bring the garden indoors to enjoy green fingered fun. Our residents love getting their hands dirty potting Daffodils, Forget me Not’s and Herbs, which we all take great care in maintaining and monitoring the progress of their growth. Gardening is one of our favourite frequent activities and allows us to show our creative side.

Royal Marine Cadets Come to Visit

Royal Marine Cadets Come to Visit

The residents of Collingtree park enjoyed a surprise visit from the Northampton Royal Marine Cadets and Sea Cadets. The Cadets quickly sprung into action helping make tea for the residents, and handing out the home-made cake prepared by our wonderful kitchen team. The Cadets also visited the residents who were in their rooms, to ensure no one missed out. During the visit our residents particularly enjoyed seeing the uniforms the cadets were wearing, which took them on a trip down memory lane reminiscing on the uniforms their family, friends or themselves used to wear.

Afternoon Tea Party & Balloon Release

Afternoon Tea Party & Balloon Release

Collingtree Park held an afternoon tea party and balloon release as part of Dementia Awareness Week. Plans to hold the event in the garden were scuppered by the weather, so the party was held indoors. After plenty of tea and cake, a few hardy souls braved the elements and released their balloons. We will now wait and see if any of the labels are returned. In previous years, they have been found as far afield as Dublin and France!
