Activities at Canmore Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a variety of events as well as offering tailored programmes to stimulate residents both mentally and physically. There are regular outings in the minibus to local places of interest, such as trips to the beach for ice cream, pub visits for a pint, and regular trips to Dobbies for tea and cakes. Georgie Girl, an old English sheep dog, also stops by the home on regular basis for pet therapy. Musical entertainment is a big hit with residents as well, so we book fan favourites to come and play at the home each month. At Canmore, relatives are always encouraged to join in on the fun too.

Life at Canmore Lodge Care Home

Pet Therapy

The residents at Canmore enjoy their daily cuddles from pet therapy dog, Baillie, who recently joined the home as a resident and loves nothing more than wandering.

Pet therapy can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also increase self-esteem and improve social skills, so everyone was absolutely delighted to have him along. Baillie is very beneficial to those who spend time in their rooms and find him a great comfort.

This particular activity is part of the homes meaningful activities, which are tailored to our residents' likes and dislikes. We are delighted that we were able to get a PAT dog to live with us, and our residents really enjoy it so much! I’m sure Baillie does too; he is getting plenty of love and cuddles!”

Showing Our Support

The team at Canmore Lodge recently presented local football team, Larbert 2009s, with a new home kit for the value of £450.00. The home presented the kit to the local team on behalf of the residents at the home, who wanted to sponsor the local team using their own comfort funds, which they decided to use to support members of the local community.

Grant, the team manager said: “It was a pleasure to receive such a warm welcome from all the residents and staff at the home. As a team, we do rely on sponsors and we are very grateful to the residents for their kind donation. We look forward to sharing events in the future with the residents and staff, and hope to see some of them on the pitch side cheering the team on, and the team have kindly invited us to their upcoming events at the home which sound wonderful. We’re always happy to connect with the lovely members of our community and will dedicate our next goal to Canmore Lodge!”

All on Board! Residents Enjoyed Barge Trip!

Residents of Canmore Lodge boarded the barge and watched the world go by as they sailed along the canal during a recent day trip. Everyone enjoyed the peaceful setting and laughed as they watched two small dogs try and hop onto the barge to join them, it was their first barge trip of the year and has left them planning the next!

The group enjoyed sailing on the canal with Residents enjoying the peace and tranquility of the barge, admiring all of the wonderful scenery and nature. The home have been enjoying these trips for many years.  Everyone also shared a delicious lunch followed by cakes and warm beverages, Residents commented that they loved the fresh air throughout the barge trip.

Canmore Lodge General Manager, Jane Aitken said: “Our Residents had such a great time, we have several barge trips planned throughout the rest of 2020 as they are always a thoroughly enjoyed day out for all.”

Residents Served Up Delicious Treats

Residents from Canmore Lodge enjoyed an afternoon of baking, which took them back to their younger years as part of the ‘baking’ club worthy of any bake off.

Jane Aitken, General Manager, said: “The residents enjoy spending time in the kitchen, as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the bakes were made, we all enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and a home-made cake.”

Christmas Carol

When it comes to Christmas everyone enjoys the delight of carols and residents of Canmore Lodge just couldn’t get enough. Throughout December, members of the local community have been popping in regularly to entertain everyone with their singing, while staff from Canmore Lodge brought their own mix of carols and Christmas music on Christmas Eve.

The carol concert had everyone joining in with classics such as ‘I Saw Three Ships', ‘White Christmas' and ‘It's the most wonderful time of the year'. A little humour and some colourful outfits made sure everyone was filled with festive cheer.   Jane Aitken, General Manager said “Our lounge was packed with residents enjoying the concert, and we would like to thank everyone who took part for making our afternoon really special.”

Residents Take a Trip to Local Museum

One resident commented “It was lovely to see the old signs and cars as it is all a piece of history. I remember looking at it these cars as a child to see which one I’d like to own.” After the museum, Residents were able to enjoy a spot of lunch before returning home.
