Activities at Canmore Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a variety of events as well as offering tailored programmes to stimulate residents both mentally and physically. There are regular outings in the minibus to local places of interest, such as trips to the beach for ice cream, pub visits for a pint, and regular trips to Dobbies for tea and cakes. Georgie Girl, an old English sheep dog, also stops by the home on regular basis for pet therapy. Musical entertainment is a big hit with residents as well, so we book fan favourites to come and play at the home each month. At Canmore, relatives are always encouraged to join in on the fun too.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Canmore Lodge Care Home
English National Ballet
We celebrated Remembrance Day with English National Ballet Associate Dance Artist, Richard Bermange, who led a creative dance workshop for our residents followed by a special extract of Akram Khan’s work Dust, premiered in 2014 as part of ENB’s Lest We Forget programme, commemorating the First World War.
ENB company dancers, Erina Takahashi and James Streeter performed the extract and provided some insight into this moving work.
Our residents had a wonderful time as they listened, danced and were able to singalong to famous war time music performed by ENB Associate Musician, Matt Hartley-Stevens.
Cooking demo
We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.
Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.
Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.
Our National Winners
Sharon Batchelor and Steve Forrest have beaten all the competition to be crowned National Nurse of the Year and National Maintenance Champion, respectively, in the Barchester Care Awards 2021.
The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 12,000 residents living in Barchester’s 248 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.
More than 2,900 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard and Sharon and Steve are both over the moon to have been named the national winner in these categories.
Creative writing
We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.
We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.
It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.
Mocktails with Unilever
We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.
Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.
Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.
The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.
Going for gold!
Residents and staff at Canmore Lodge care home, in Dunfermline, laced up their trainers and warmed-up for the annual Going for Gold event in partnership with Active FIFE.
Residents took to their marks for the event which was themed on the Tokyo Olympics. In preparation Residents at Canmore Lodge got crafty and made their own decorations, Olympic torches and flags for the day. The home represented India for the event and residents were treated to an opening ceremony of home cooked Indian cuisine consisting of pakora starters and chicken Bhuna.
Residents battled it out to be crowned sporting champions by Gerard Fox, Physiotherapist, Our Olympic events consisted of the pool vault, Ping pong, the climbing wall, which provided a lot of laughter, where residents were timed to see who could build the highest tower. Other events included bowling, the bean bag toss finished with a big round of movement to music.
