Activities at Beeston View Memory Lane Community

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Luisa Painemilla

Activities Coordinator

Hi there, I'm Luisa, Activities Co-ordinator at Iddenshall Hall.

I have worked with the elderly over 8 years and also for fifteen years in the social field as an Activities Coordinator for different social groups in three countries. I have a Degree in Social Integration, a Certificate in Theatrical Psychology and a Music Therapy certificate. In the past I have worked for local authorities and in a cerebral palsy home.

My work is very rewarding and it is a pleasure planning events and activities each month. I enjoy interacting with Residents and learning about their interests, preferences and experiences.

Look out for our activities and events - you are welcome to join us!

Arts & Crafts

Arts & Crafts

Arts & Crafts plays a huge role in the individual health and well-being of residents. Clay modelling is especially therapeutic, and is becoming increasingly popular in the care sector, so we regularly hold sessions that residents can participate in.

Discussion Groups

Discussion Groups

We have been using pictures of flowers, leaves, birds, plants and herbs to start discussion groups at Beeston View with residents. This has been a really useful way to encourage residents to socialise with each other. It has been a very enjoyable activity!

Puzzle Time!

Puzzle Time!

We have been doing some puzzles with residents at Beeston View this month.

A multi-sensory approach to interacting is particularly important when someone has advanced dementia. This is because bright colours, interesting sounds and tactile objects can all catch their attention in a way that other activities, such as making conversation or reading, may not any more.

Additional advantages can include better control over hand-eye coordination and bolstered language skills.

Residents Enjoying Their Colouring

Residents Enjoying Their Colouring

Residents at Beeston View have been enjoying colouring sessions recently - they can be as creative as they like with the colours. Adult colouring has proven to be a very relaxing and therapeutic activity; many residents will spend longer periods of time focusing when they have a colouring book in front of them, as they are so wrapped up in what they are doing that the time tends to fly by for them. It is always a beneficial activity.

Building Blocks at Beeston View

Building Blocks at Beeston View

We have been using our building blocks with Beeston View residents; these are a great way to help those who are living with dementia to concentrate. It is a useful practical tool to focus their minds and allows them to create things that feel meaningful.

Crafts

Crafts

We have been doing some crafts with the upstairs residents at Beeston View. We had some cut outs of lovely flowers, birds, hearts and stars, along with feathers and straws. We used these to create some alternative arrangements for display. Residents helped choose the colours and styles and we made some lovely displays for everyone to see. Residents liked using the bright colours and different textures because it allowed them to be creative.
