Activities at Beeston View Memory Lane Community

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Luisa Painemilla

Activities Coordinator

Hi there, I'm Luisa, Activities Co-ordinator at Iddenshall Hall.

I have worked with the elderly over 8 years and also for fifteen years in the social field as an Activities Coordinator for different social groups in three countries. I have a Degree in Social Integration, a Certificate in Theatrical Psychology and a Music Therapy certificate. In the past I have worked for local authorities and in a cerebral palsy home.

My work is very rewarding and it is a pleasure planning events and activities each month. I enjoy interacting with Residents and learning about their interests, preferences and experiences.

A Centenarian at Beeston

A Centenarian at Beeston

A resident at Beeston View turned the young age of 100 in September!

Vera was thrown a party with a cake that was decorated with her name in Morse code. She was presented with her telegram from the queen and a message from the Mayor of Chester, as well as a lovely bouquet of flowers.

Her family were here to share in the festivities and Vera had a wonderful day. We held a tea party in the afternoon with entertainment from John Hughes and everybody was able to share Vera’s happy day.

Dementia Café

Dementia Café

We have made our first visit to the Dementia Café at Chester Zoo. We listened to a talk about rhinos and saw a replication of a rhino horn, which was the same weight as the real thing.

Residents were able to do colouring, quizzes, crosswords, chat to others and also take a look at the elephants and rhinos in the zoo – all for free! We enjoyed tea and coffee and meeting some new people from local communities too.

The British Ironworks

The British Ironworks

We recently took a trip out in our minibus to The British Ironworks in Oswestry. We had a picnic lunch on the minibus as it was raining, however the sun came out for us and we were able to look around the Ironworks in the Sunshine at all the wonderful sculptures there.

It is a lovely place to visit and doesn't cost a penny! It is definitely something different from the norm and the residents had a great time. It’s full of amazing sculptures made from iron, spoons, knives and other interesting materials – so many life sized animals to look at that are so well made.

We would recommend it to anyone and we will definitely be returning soon!

Kiddley Divey are Back!

Kiddley Divey are Back!

We had another visit from music therapists, Kiddley Divey. Residents love these visits and always enjoy dressing, dancing and singing along.

Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo

We went on a trip to Chester Zoo recently to visit their Dementia Café, which they run twice a month.

There was a talk on rhinos, which was very informative, there were puzzles, quiz questions and reminiscence books to enjoy, as well as plenty of people to talk to. There were residents from other homes, husbands who had bought their wives and staff members who were all more than happy to converse with us. We enjoyed a hot drink and then a look at the elephants and rhinos before returning to Beeston View for lunch.

Summer BBQ

We held our Beeston View Summer BBQ and it was a complete success – even the weather managed to hold out, with sunshine all afternoon.

There were plenty of games for residents and staff to enjoy together, as well as music and dancing. We were served delicious burgers and hotdogs, followed by Cornettos, which went down really well with everyone.

It was a wonderful day enjoyed by all who came.
