Activities at Archview Lodge Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Diane Wood

Head of Activities

Hi, my name is Diane and  I am Head of Activities here at Archview.  I have worked in the homes since 2009.

I strongly believe in creating moments for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities, whilst remaining person centred and respecting resident’s preferences. Every day I like to ensure the residents on memory lane can enjoy themselves and have a good time whilst forming bonds with each other and the staff around them.

Outside of work,  I have a 23 years old son and a wee dog called Hugo and my ambition is to make people smile and be happy.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Archview Lodge Care Home

Flowers bloom at Archview

Staff and residents at Archview care home were treated to an interactive virtual floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus.

Blooming Haus started with a small pop-up shop in Chelsea.  They have since blossomed spectacularly on to the floristry scene as ‘floral engineers’, carving themselves an outstanding reputation as one of the UK’s most innovative floral design studios

Hairdressing is back on the agenda

There was much laughter in Archview as the homes activities team dressed up as ‘ladies at the hairdresser’ to celebrate the return of our hairdresser  to the home, residents enjoyed seeing them in their rollers and nets as they were transported to the salon . It was a happy day to get your hair finally coiffed and see the activity team dancing and having a giggle along the way

Resident joy with family visits

It was lovely to finally have our residents enjoy visits from their younger members of their family and great to see everyone’s smiling faces enjoying being reunited in our comfortable and covid safe visiting suite.

Residents enjoy a 'blether' at coffee morning

Residents of Archview have been enjoying a wee cuppa at our Archview café which reopened at the beginning of the month. Our ladies had a great blether over their coffee and biscuits in our in house coffee shop.

Home has fun with National Vegetarian week

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Archview Lodge care home in Dalkeith were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight, Strachan House head chef had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

Green Goddess joins residents for virtual event

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Archview Lodge care home in Dalkeith were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.
