Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Lynne Bowler

Activities Coordinator

I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Life at Adlington Manor Care Home

Home enjoys PJ day!

Staff and residents at Adlington Manor enjoyed a day relaxing in their PJ’s. It was a beautiful warn autumn day and they were able to eat their lunch outside washed down with the Cocktail of the day – a Sleeping Beauty!

Everyone relaxed and enjoyed the film ‘bed knobs and broom sticks’ which made them laugh and romantic film, Sleepless in Seattle creating a lovely romantic feeling around the home.  The homes hospitality team also whipped up a slumber themed menu which everyone enjoyed leaving everyone looking forward to the next themed day.

And so to bed!

Home celebrates the 60s

Adlington Manor care home, in Adlington has thrown a 1960s themed party to celebrate memories of this colourful and vibrant time.

Staff, residents and guests commemorated the day with staff dressing the home to invoke memories of the 60’s. The homes wonderful chef and hospitality themed their menu with French onion soup, prawn cocktails, mouth-watering coq au vin, and delicious sherry trifle to name a few tempting treats!

Of course an obligatory cocktail was essential so Snowballs were served with one Resident saying “she’d not had one for years and really enjoyed it especially when she got the cherries at the bottom!”   It was wonderful day with films and music and everyone had a fantastic time.

Home remembers VJ Day

Adlington Manor care home in Poynton decided to celebrate VJ day on Saturday 15 August.   Residents and staff all got involved with the spirit of the occasion and held a 2 minute silence to remember the fallen.  The home’s remembrance was enhanced by their soldiers silhouette which had been made for them by their local ‘Men is Sheds’ group based in Poynton.

General Manager, Fiona Gough at Adlington Manor care home, said: “This is a solemn occasion but sparked a lot of memories for our residents to talk about”.

A resident at the home said:  “It was sad to remember all those who served and are no longer with us but we were able to celebrate their efforts”.

New garden

At the beginning of the month, Neil, the homes Maintenance Assistant came up with the idea of creating a Garden for Lost Friends, which would be a tranquil place where everyone could remember those friends who are no longer with us. Neil planned out the design and along with the rest of the maintenance team, set about making it a reality.

The final result is a beautiful stoned garden, which will become even nicer when the plants are in bloom. To finish it off, the whole home has been painting rocks for those they would like to remember, with designs of things that remind us of them or simply a little message from one friend to another.

The Roaring 20s!

To celebrate the fact that we are now back in the 20s, Adlington Manor decided to host a 1920s themed day. Although most of the homes residents were born after this time, they were all very excited to travel back in time.

A few days before, everyone checked they had their costumes ready, and spent the afternoon making feathered headbands that any flapper would be proud to wear! On the eve of the party, decorations were put up transforming the lounge into a Speakeasy, as Prohibition was the thing they were most worried about.

As the day arrived Residents spent the morning learning the Charleston, accompanied by popular songs from the time. The afternoon got off to a messy start, with custard pie throwing, a la Bugsy Malone. Not even the homes General Manager, Fiona, could escape a pie to the face! To finish off the day, everyone  had a cocktail making masterclass and tasting. The perfect way to end a party!
