What our families say: Adlington Manor Care Home
06 December 2019View the report
"Nothing is too much trouble for the wonderful staff. I live 200 miles away and with all restrictions in place it has been hard to visit, it is wonderful to live so far away and have total peace of mind in knowing my mother is being cared for and treated so very well. Excellent in all aspects."

"My father had two spells at Adlington for over four months with an admission to the hospital in-between. He became increasingly frail. Throughout, we were kept fully informed of his needs and situation. Every cue was given to him medically. It was clear the staff took time to know him, comfort and support him when we couldn't due to Covid. We were able to speak with or Skype him, and carers would help. It was clear he was fond of the staff. We are grateful to all for making him as comfortable as possible."

"Poor communication with mother, she was partially sighted had dementia. First, she was in her own room with extremely poor reception so Skype calls were a nightmare. Then she was wheeled into the day room where other residents were, who were making a terrible racket. This meant mum was not able to concentrate to answer or make conversation. As my mum passed away I collected her belongings but there were at least three items of clothing missing, to which I rang about and was told I would have a call back the following day, but that never happened. Also, I was shocked to see the state of her fingernails/hands. Over time as a patient there she obviously had had her hands in her nappy and they hadn't been washed properly as her fingernails were engrained with her own excrement."

"There are no words to describe this care home, everyone is so caring to residents and families alike. Everyone is so friendly it's incredible, my father could not have been in a better place at the end of his life, and when he turned 100, everything was done to mark this incredible milestone. Thank you to everybody who works so hard to care for residents and assist families to visit and care for their loved ones."

"Overall care has been excellent, especially because of ongoing problems from the pandemic. All the staff are very kind. More daily physio would be helpful as I had a partial hip replacement and more regular visits on Wednesday from the Doctor."

"You are very helpful when we phone you up. This has been essential since I have been ill and since lockdown, as I have not been able to visit her."

"When my father first arrived at Adlington Manor, he exhibited challenging behaviour and was in decline. The staff were patient and responsive to his needs. During the Covid 19 lockdown, my Dad had a birthday. We couldn't see him, so I was delighted when I was sent a video of him being presented with his favourite cake with candles on and having 'Happy Birthday' sung to him. He is settled, safe and very well cared for."

"It's impossible to grade many of the categories here from the current experience as we haven't been able to visit during lockdown. However, when I saw my dear friend from the garden after nearly 5 months, she looked well and happy. Most of all, she looked loved by the staff around her. They have worked so hard and I am grateful for their dedication in such difficult times."
Lesley Tcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.58 out of 5
"Mum has been in Adlington Manor for almost 7-years. We have been very happy with her care over the years, in particular, the past 3/4 years. Several of the staff have really lovely, loving relationships with Mum."

"After a 4 week spell in hospital, my father had lost a considerable amount of weight and was showing signs of confusion not previously experienced. He was discharged from hospital for intermediate care at Adlington Manor, with a view to building up his strength and general rehabilitation to ensure he could return home safely. On the day of his arrival, my Dad was very distressed and agitated, but the staff were kind and patient throughout a very difficult 'Covid' period of lockdown. After 3 weeks, my Dad was strong enough to return home. The staff were always courteous and kind with us as his family and arranged regular Skype calls with Dad as we couldn't visit. In summary, the staff were an absolute credit to their profession and I would highly recommend Adlington Manor for any families looking for care facilities for loved ones."

"Friendly care by lovely people who realised the importance of supporting the family as well as residents. Mum was in an intermediate care bed (NHS) so cannot comment on fees/value for money."

"My husband passed away on the 23/09/19. He was frail when he arrived at Adlington Manor Care Home 6 months ago but the staff did well to help and support him over the 6 months he was with them. He had a wonderful 80th birthday party in August 2019 and thanks to the manager for allowing us to do that. Those carers were so good to my husband and myself. Thank them so much for everything."

"Our relative received excellent care from diligent. Lovely staff. Initially, she was reluctant to leave her room and staff respecting her autonomy, did not force her but latterly, she was always out of her room when we visited. Our relative told us she felt "very looked after and comfortable", "everyone is very kind". We saw staff interacting with residents in a friendly and encouraging manner. The home was well run and the manager was easily accessible and always willing to talk. She knew all the residents."
Duncan Mcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.64 out of 5
"My father entered the home directly from hospital eleven days ago so was only in the home for a very short time before he died last night. He had dementia and wasn't able to do anything for himself but was treated with respect and dignity during his short stay. Our family felt very comfortable coming and going at any time and we got to know a few of the people that took charge of Dad's care."
Melanie Tcarehome.co.uk rating: 3.25 out of 5
"My mother's stay at Adlington was superb - the staff were absolutely first class and cared for her every need. The home was always very clean and well maintained and there were plenty of different areas to sit and spend the day. Food was also excellent. Would definitely use for further respite care if needed."

"My mother was placed here following a fall and replacement hip operation. She received excellent care from friendly and helpful staff, with physiotherapy every day to help her regain mobility. She enjoyed the food and activities and problems with her delicate skin were dealt with promptly by the nursing staff. All in all, a good experience."
J Rcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.75 out of 5
"My mother was referred by NHS to Adlington Manor following an operation and for 'intermediary care'. She had very limited mobility. Her given room was dark with no ensuite facilities and some distance from the bathroom. Only an open commode was provided! The lift from 1st floor was inadequate for wheelchair use and dirty (dead insects in glass as lift moved). Unfortunately, the majority of residents appeared highly dependent, both physically and mentally - thus little stimulating activity or entertainment. On a positive note - the staff did their best and were pleasant and helpful. After 2 weeks we moved my mother to a more pleasant environment."
S Ycarehome.co.uk rating: 2.45 out of 5
"The professionalism, care and kindness shown to our mother over the 3 years she was resident before she passed away was outstanding. The dementia ward turned Mum's life around. The staff go her to wash and eat regularly, and to sleep in a bed again. Mum was treated as an individual and the staff brought out the best in her in the circumstances, they were phased by nothing that she did."
D Gcarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"My mother-in-law came here in June from hospital. She was very frail and for a number of weeks, she was in bed. Although she has lost weight she is now up each day and is eating much better. It's nice to see her amongst other people. We are satisfied she is well cared for."
Helen Scarehome.co.uk rating: 4 out of 5
"My wife has spent 4 weeks at Adlington Manor for secondary rehabilitation following a hip replacement. The care, kindness and attention given to her by all the staff has been excellent. The home has a very friendly atmosphere and provides a good variety of activities for those able to participate."
Peter Mcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.55 out of 5
"The care given is exemplary. I have visited at various times throughout the day and nothing but extreme kindness and patience is displayed to all residents. The home is beautifully kept, making my mother-in-law's stay, albeit for short respite, very comfortable and one where we have peace of mind. Thank you."

"I am extremely happy with the nursing care my mother-in-law is receiving in Adlington Manor. The staff are very caring and pleasant and led by an excellent management team - who are always approachable and on hand. The food is nutritious and prepared by an excellent chef and team ensuring the residents enjoy their chosen meals."

"Very happy with the care my mother receives. It is extremely important for me to feel that she is secure and safe. I can sleep at night knowing she is in caring hands and she is being fed a balanced diet. Management is excellent with good communication on all matters. Thank you and my compliments to the chef."

"Having seen the care and support that has been given to my mother since she just came to Adlington Manor on 29th November 2017, it is amazing to see what dedicated and professional staff can do for residents! My mother has been treated both medically and care needs, with the utmost attention to detail, resulting in a very improved quality of life for my mother (all round excellent)."

"My husband was diagnosed with vascular cerebral dementia. After breaking his leg in hospital, I could no longer manage at home. By chance, at my wit's end, I visited Adlington Manor Care Home. The general manager welcomed me with open arms. In due course, my husband in June 2017, joined the care home family. Every member of staff took great care of him encouraged him and joked with him. His family were always as part of the home family. I never heard staff say "no" to my husband. They always managed to run a situation around as if he did it himself - that takes skill. Sadly my husband died on 3rd April 2018, cared for by the staff with care and reverence to the end, just as I had wished. I cannot thank the general manager enough or her staff for their love, care and attention. I have tried but I cannot find enough words to express my gratitude. Barchester should be very very proud of Adlington Manor Care Home and of the people who run it so well."

"While my husband has been in Adlington Manor he has been well looked after and has always been treated with respect which gives me peace of mind. I couldn't wish for a better care home. The manager and staff are very welcoming and always make me feel part of the family. May this continue."

"The care staff at Adlington Manor are relatively stable with a number who have been there several years. This is a huge plus in terms of atmosphere, standards and general homeliness within the community. Residents are well cared for and the general atmosphere is good."

"Myself and my family are so pleased that my wife their mum has settled in at Adlington, she has challenging behaviour so is on a one to one but the staff manage her really well. My wife has been treated with dignity also so with her being so young gets pampered quite often. All of the staff are all lovely to get on with have time to listen to any concerns."

"My Mum stayed for several weeks at Adlington Manor as part of her intermediate care, prior to returning home. I cannot thank the staff for their care, kindness and genuine interest in my Mum. For example, on her birthday, I was able to join Mum for lunch at an area set aside for us. The nursing staff were quick to identify a chest infection and sought medical help quickly. There is a super range of daily activities available as well as regular entertainment. The whole care home is run extremely well by a general manager who is accessible and knowledgeable."

"Mum has been in Adlington Manor since November 2016. When she first arrived, we didn't think she would be with us for long but has made an amazing recovery. The care from the majority of the care team has been very good in difficult circumstances (she can be challenging and not accepting of help at times). She finds weekends challenging as some agency staff aren't as understanding of her needs but we are able to talk to the management team frankly about this."

"Barchester Adlington is a first-class Care Home. The staff are excellent and look after the residents well. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable. The only downside is the cost of the monthly rent as we are paying the full charge, but at least we know my wife is comfortable here."

"I live some distance away and sadly cannot visit as often as I would like to. It is a great comfort to me that my father is being so well looked after by the amazing, kind and caring staff at Adlington Manor. He is happy and settled there and when I have to leave I know he is in good hands!"

"My mother has been a resident for 4 years. Last weekend was her 88th birthday. As she can't easily be taken out for meals/visits due to her health conditions, the care home manager very kindly offered the use of a room for our family of 7. The home provided a very enjoyable 3 course meal and drinks for a nominal fee. Mum had a lovely time and we all really appreciated the trouble the staff had gone to. Thank you!"

"Easily the best care home in the area. I've visited many homes searching for a possible permanent care home for my mum. Adlington Manor is easily the best I can find. My mum has been here for about three months now and I've found that the staff are really lovely, kind and so patient. The rooms are large and each has a full ensuite including toilet and shower. There are nice gardens which are wheelchair friendly and several places to sit out together with conservatories too. The food looked good and there is a nice coffee lounge with fresh tea, coffee and cake available all day."

"I would like to praise the staff in the Rowan Suite, especially the Head of the Unit. The care, respect and kindness given to my mother during her short stay at the end of her life was outstanding. In addition, they helped and supported all the family at a very difficult time with care, time and concern."

"We had almost despaired at finding the right care home for our 95-year old mother after a hip operation left her virtually immobile. Then a friend suggested we take a look at Adlington Manor. We turned up unannounced at a weekend, but nonetheless were made welcome and given a thorough introduction by a member of the team and we knew immediately we’d found the right place. Not only is Adlington beautifully situated, with the feel of a country hotel (the home has recently been refurbished throughout), but the level of professional care and kindness Mum is now receiving is everything we had hoped for and delivered by a proactive and willing team who are approachable at every level. After ten days at Adlington, Mum has regained her dignity and begun recovering physically too from the debilitating effect of a long stay in hospital. So a huge weight has been taken off our minds, we have no doubt that we made the right choice and we have no hesitation in recommending to others."

"The home is currently run by excellent management and key staff. Most of the carers have a proactive attitude to the residents who in many cases are very challenging. The whole fabric of the building has been significantly upgraded during the past 12 months and is still ongoing."

"When looking for a care home for my mother Adlington Manor was recommended to me. From my very first visit we were made very welcome by every member of staff that we met. Mum was subsequently visited by the deputy manager in hospital and it was agreed that mum would be able to be transferred as quickly as possible. The care we as a family have witnessed has been excellent, and we have no hesitation in recommending Adlington Manor to anyone having to make the decision to put their relatives into their care."

"We were delighted to secure a place at Adlington Manor Nursing Home for my mother four months ago, it is run by strong, professional, efficient and approachable management overseeing all aspects of care. The team of staff are friendly, enthusiastic, supportive and caring to personal needs, the food is excellently prepared by an award-winning chef and his team. Laundry, housekeeping and maintenance are very good and medical needs are catered for. The home is undergoing extensive refurbishment all very tasteful including the hairdressing salon, podiatry and activities room. Everyone is treated with dignity and visitors are always welcome."

"My daughter and I saw several homes before choosing 'Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home'. It seemed to be far superior to other homes. My wife has been a resident for 4 months and my first impressions have been confirmed. The staff are excellent and provide a caring service. The food is cooked on the premises and is good. The room is clean and we are very satisfied that my wife is receiving good attention."
Peter Scarehome.co.uk rating: 4.58 out of 5
"All the staff are kind, polite, efficient. The manager, carers, nurses, activity lady, cleaning staff cooks, maintenance staff and gardener we cannot fault them. The food is excellent, although I do feel older people do not need two hot meals a day. A lighter tea would be more suitable. The cleaning ladies always keep the rooms nice and clean, tidy and smelling sweet. My husband has just had his room refurbished and is lovely. I am sure all the rest of the building will be the same when refurbishment is completed."
