Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Lynne Bowler

Activities Coordinator

I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Global Beatles Day

Today we had a fantastic day celebrating Global Beatles Day in honour of the famous rock band.

We spent the day watching films about the ideals of the Beatles, listening to the Beatles' classics and reminiscing about the 60s.

Our residents got involved in fun-filled themed activities, including dancing and singing.

It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.

A trip to Blaze Farm

Residents from Adlington Manor enjoyed a trip to Blaze Farm where they were able to sample homemade ice-cream and enjoy the surroundings from this popular local destination.

Blaze Farm in Wildboarclough is an award winning farm set on the edge of the Peak District. Famous for their Hilly Billy Ice Cream – all made on the farm using milk from the Peak District, and theTea Rooms – offering mouth-watering home baked cakes, we're worth a visit all year round and residents were delighted to return after such a long time.

Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.

Residents enjoy canal trip

Staff and residents at Adlington Manor care home in Adlington, Cheshire were celebrating being able to go on short excursions again as lockdown restrictions ease across the country.  Residents are now able to go on a short trip to outdoor spaces without having to isolate on their return.

Residents from Adlington Manor enjoyed a long-awaited trip on New Horizons canal boat where they were able to enjoy a leisurely morning trip along the Macclesfield canal, enjoying the lovely views and have morning coffee with a variety of snacks served along the route.

Fiona Gough, General Manager at Adlington Manor commented: “It is absolutely wonderful to be able to take our residents out for trips again.  We have all been waiting for this day and we are so thankful it is finally here.  Our residents have enjoyed all sorts of different entertainment during lockdown but nothing beats some fresh air and a change of scenery to blow away the cobwebs.”

Nutrition and Hydration Week

We celebrated Nutrition and Hydration Week in style with a variety of delicious and healthy meals and beverages, alongside engaging activities.

During the week, our talented chef prepared nutritious sweet and savoury treats, super snacks, smoothies and fruit salads.

Our residents got involved in food tasting and cocktail making activities, cookery sessions and we all had fun submitting our entries for the Nutrition and Hydration competition, organised by Barchester’s Hospitality Team.

Evacuees and Espionage

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.

The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.

It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.

Fun at the races!

We marked the annual Royal Ascot races in style as we dressed to impress, put on our favourite hats and we used our gaming money to place our winning bets.

Our residents enjoyed the event from the comfort of the home, we watched the races, had conversations about the Royal Ascot fashion and celebrated the occasion with a glass of fizz and delicious treats.

Our ladies enjoyed a special pampering session and had their hair and make-up done.

We all had great fun.
