Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Lynne Bowler

Activities Coordinator

I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Magical Moments

Keeping active is important to our residents here at Adlington Manor and as part of the homes life enrichment programme we provided a varied calendar of exercise, with Magical Moments a firm favourite.  Each session focuses on mobility and movement to music with residents actively joining in.  It is a fun-filled session for all before sitting back to enjoy refreshments.

Hereford Cathedral virtual tour

We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.

We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.

Chippy tea's all round!

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Adlington Manor care home in Cheshire had a fantastic time celebrating National Fish & Chip Day on Fryday 4th June, surely one of the best days of the year!

Kitchen staff whipped up a selection of different flavoured batters for residents to try along with some home-made tartare sauce and mushy peas, everyone had a great time guessing the different batter ingredients.  The sun was shining so residents took to the garden to eat their fish and chips in newspaper (waxed paper) in a basket .  Later on they enjoyed a quiz where they were tested on fun fish & chip facts.

Deputy  Manager, Danielle, said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was a National Fish & Chip Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – fish & chips are such an iconic dish, everyone loves them and it’s even better when there is a good excuse to eat them!”

Make a wish

Colleagues at Adlington Manor are exploring new ways to entertain our residents and to keep them stimulated, they have created a ‘wishing well’ and Residents are being asked if they had one wish what would it be, it could be from the homes hospitality team to create their favourite dish to a destination of the choice.  Each week the team are looking at ways to grant the wishes and make a residents day!  What would you wish?

A tour on the wild-side

Here at Adlington Manor we were pleased to be able to dive into the wild safari life of Knowsley Safari and to enjoy an amazing live stream tour of the park’s grounds.

Our residents were smiling and laughing as they got up close and personal with some of the safari’s most popular animals, including giraffes and meerkats.

We had a wonderful time learning more about the animals and enjoying some live feeding demonstrations.

Dipping your toes!

On a lovely hot day the only way to cool off is to dip your feet in the water!  Residents of Adlington Manor took advantage of the recent sunny weather to enjoy spending time outdoors in the homes extensive grounds to dip their toes in the paddling pool, whilst outdoors they also tasted refreshing ice-creams and cooling drinks. What better way to spend the day!
