Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Lynne Bowler

Activities Coordinator

I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Wilhelmina Wonka's Chocolate Factory

Today Wilhelmina Wonka, eccentric great aunt on of Willie Wonka (our General Manager Fiona), accompanied By Trudie, her Oompa Loompa, helped Chef Alfie to produce a feast of chocolate,

We had Jaffa Cakes, Chocolate Swiss rolls, Chocolate tea cakes, Chocolate buttons and  chocolate tastes with our coffee, Chocolate hot fudge pudding at lunch time, Cherry and Chocolate cake to accompany afternoon tea and  Tiramisu after our lovely evening meal.

There was a huge selection of chocolate sweets.

We took part in chocolate themed quiz and chocolate painting – It was an amazing day with many smiles and giggles with Wilhelmina Wonka and her Oompa Loompa

Many thanks to our lovey chef Alfie as his puddings and cakes were amazing!

A Sunny Day in the Garden

A lovely Sunny day in Adlington following all the rain in July – We took to opportunity to have a much missed BBQ enjoy by all with homemade ice cream to follow  . Under the shade in the courtyard many of the gentleman took the opportunity for a Dominoes Tournament which was great fun . The audience was able to watch and encourage as we use large dominoes which can be seen by non-participants

In the end it was a 4 way tie but ever one agreed that this to be resumed next time the sun came out to decide the final winner.

Love is in the air!

Love was in the air here at Adlington Manor as we celebrated Valentine’s with a very special 1960s themed day. Each of our Residents received a red rose, a delicious heart shaped chocolate and a packet of love heart sweets.

Did you know that Love Hearts first went into production in 1954!

The homes hospitality team whipped up a delicious menu serving firm favourites – Baked Alaska and Pavlova – what is there not to love! We hope everyone had a lovely Valentine’s.

Christmas Day

Here at Adlington Manor we had a fantastic Christmas Day, which involved themed movies, making fresh mince pies, family visits followed by a beautiful festive lunch with turkey, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, puddings and cakes.

In the morning we welcomed Father Christmas and his elves from the North Pole, who brought gifts to all our residents - everyone was busy opening their presents and enjoying a glass of bubbly before the festive feast, prepared by our talented chef and kitchen team.

After lunch, we tuned in to watch and listen to the King's speech. Our day was filled with joy, smiles, music and laughter.
