Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Lest We Forget

Residents and staff members at Woodland View worked together to create a Remembrance Day display. Everyone took part in decorating the home for the day and, on 11th November, they had a service with two minutes of silence to pay tribute to the members of the armed forces who have died in line of their duty.

Our Activities Coordinator was wearing a handmade poppies dress in recognition of this occasion.

The day continued with a virtual war-time concert and homemade cakes with a cup of tea.

World Food Day

Residents and staff at Woodland View celebrated World Food Day on 15th October. All had a tester session with more than 20 different types of food from all over the world. Residents enjoyed a tasty social afternoon!

Autumn Activities

Residents at Woodland View have been enjoying autumn-themed activities. Residents and staff at the home were creating autumn cards for the local community and autumn wreaths to decorate home with.

Nurse of the Year

Anumol Thomas was crowned as the national winner in the Registered Nurse of the Year category at the 2020 Barchester Care Awards, held virtually on 8th October.

The awards celebrate staff and volunteers who go the extra mile for the benefit of residents and patients living in Barchester care homes and independent hospitals.

More than 2,800 nominations were received from homes, residents, staff and relatives across the UK this year, which is nearly 1000 more than was received last year. Nominations were sent in by Barchester staff, but many more were also from residents and their families who have praised the fantastic care provided to their loved ones.

All entries have been of a very high standard and Anumol is thrilled to have been declared as the national winner!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Staff and residents held a charity coffee morning on 2nd October to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support

Having a coffee morning is the perfect chance to catch up over a cuppa and a slice of something delicious for a great cause. In 2019, an incredible £27.5 million was raised, and Macmillan is aiming to top that this year. The money raised will help everyone with cancer to live life as fully as they can.

This year, as with most things, it was a little different; Woodland View residents and staff were baking and hosting the coffee morning to raise funds.

Residents enjoyed making and baking doughnuts, waffles and heart shape pancakes for other residents and staff members to enjoy.

Woodland View managed to raise £23 and, most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun doing it!

60 Years Together

A couple from Woodland View have celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Donald, age 89, and Anita, age 83, met at Rifle Club in Eltham in 1958, and it was love at first sight.

Donald and Anita have one son and three grandchildren. They say that the secret to a long and happy marriage is love, tolerance and not always being right.

The family came to Woodland View to celebrate the couple's special anniversary, with staff and residents. The home arranged a very special anniversary party with a photo session, the couple's favourite music, tea dance and a cake.
