Activities at Wimborne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Zoe Freeman

Lead Activities Coordinator

I have been working in care since 2019 and love the industry. I came from working on cruise ships and running events and activities there which has set me up to be a successful activities coordinator in care. You will never see me without a smile on my face and always bring my fun and bubbly personality to my job. My favourite part of my job is making people cheerful  and help make their wishes come true to show people that age is just a number and we can have fun no matter what!

Life at Wimborne Care Home

Sunbeams Duo

Sunbeams Duo

In July we welcomed the Sunbeams, father and daughter duo who are positioned locally in Hayling Island. They delighted everyone with a selection of songs from well-known artists such as Elvis Presley, Tom Jones and Patsy Cline, Cliff Richard.

Our residents enjoyed singing along and dancing. They both had lovely voices and the father played the guitar very well. We had a very enjoyable evening and we are looking forward to their next visit at Wimborne.

Classic Car Club , Classic Car Club

Classic Car Club

Local organisation, the Hayling Legends Classic Car Club very kindly donated their time to spend the afternoon with our residents at Wimborne and to show all of the classic cars. John, one of the residents, particularly enjoyed the classic Triumph Spitfire whilst reminiscing over a cup of coffee in the garden, along with chatting to the club member, who shared the same love of cars with character.

They are an inclusive club welcoming all 4, 3 and 2 wheel motorised vehicles, this includes vintage, veteran, classics, American, customs, replicas, kit cars and also Military. The Hayling Legends Classic Car Club have agreed to come and visit us on a regular basis, as its lovely to see our gentlemen residents really enjoying themselves whilst inspecting the classic cars.

The Role of Art in Care , The Role of Art in Care

The Role of Art in Care

National Care Home Open Day is now in its 7th year. This year’s theme is celebrating the role of Arts in care. It encourages all homes to open their doors to celebrate a different theme each year, with a few key values at its heart; friendship, making connections and celebrating older and vulnerable people.

Here at Wimborne, we had a fantastic day celebrating the role of art in care. Joy came along and created a beautiful display, showing a selection of all her hand made cards that were available to purchase. Joy also held a quick workshop for all residents who also wished to create their own hand made cards. After lunch, residents took advantage of the glorious sunshine and sat outside in the gardens to design their own bird boxes, which are to be displayed in our newly decked garden.

Throughout the day our wonderful staff were on hand to provide show rounds of our beautiful home and talk about the wonderful services we provide. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all residents, staff, relatives and visitors, and we are all looking forward to holding next year’s open day.

All That Jazz

All That Jazz

Resident, Mona, has always enjoyed listening to jazz music, and regularly attends live events with her friends and husband. Mona invited fellow resident, Margo, who shares this passion, and they both danced the evening away at the Haying Island Community Centre whilst listening to swing jazz featuring Chi Jazz.

They both thoroughly enjoyed the night and Mona commented on how she is forever grateful, as it brought back many happy memories for her.

Easter Family Day

Easter Family Day

We invited lots of people to join us as we got into the Easter spirit and celebrated Good Friday in style with our Easter Family Day. We held an afternoon tea party that included an Easter egg hunt and an seasonal raffle with all proceeds going towards the residents' fund.

The day was great fun and everyone had an egg-cellent time.

Out & About

With the warmer weather soon approaching, residents are taking advantage of the sunnier days by having weekly walks in the community. We recently visited Lakeside Coastal Village to look across the water and feed the swans. All residents are looking forward to their upcoming walks throughout spring and into summer.
