What our families say

I visited today with my grandmother. The staff are fantastic (Especially Kate G) they are kind and compassionate and really care for those who reside there. The place itself is beautiful and wonderfully decorated. Would 100 stars if possible ❤️

This is a lovely care home at which I attend a local business network meeting. As small businesses, we are made to feel very welcome. I've walked through the home a couple of times and it is a lovely environment where people are well cared for. It's lovely as a business owner to be part of the local community in this way, so thank you Barchester Wimborne Care Home for your hospitality.

During every visit to see my father all of the staff have been extremely friendly and helpful. There seem to be many activities organised to entertain the residents. The garden areas are lovely places to sit when the weather is fine.

Yesterday I visited The Wimborne Care Home as part of their Resident Veterans Support group. I was greeted by a friendly smiley Kate at the door and taken through to the conservatory where 7 veterans were waiting for us. Sarah then introduced everyone before we had a cup of tea. Kerry was delighted to inform us all that they had just received accreditation for Veterans - which all the staff had worked hard for. It was clear from listening to the residents that they were very well looked after. They have many different activities throughout the week. The home was spotless and I had a quick look at the menu of the day and both lunch and dinner looked great..Thank you everyone for inviting the Hayling Island Armed Forces Breakfast Club to join you once again. We all look forward to our next visit.

A lovely care home. My mum Elizabeth's life with Alzheimer's has been transformed by the atmosphere and activity there. It is a pleasure to visit, like she is staying in a very comfortable hotel with friendly guests and dedicated staff. I also know that if she has problems the team there will look after her exceptionally well. Thank you all :-).

When I visited Wimborne to assess it for care for my mum I was very impressed with the warm friendly atmosphere. Being there day in day out I saw the residents being well cared for and it is very clear that the team all love their jobs and go above and beyond they are so welcoming. This shows in the care the residents receive, it is excellent. Zoe the activities coordinator has so much enthusiasm and zest for life it’s hard not to enjoy everything she does. Sarah the manager is warm approachable and exceptional in leading the home. I Would highly recommend it to anyone.

What a lovely place, the staff are fantastic & unlike other care homes … they take their residents on excursions including motorcycle evenings, boat trips & beach walks. Plus they have groups come to them & even do a veterans breakfast so guests have enjoyable chats. Highly recommended.

"I have been visiting a friend (age 93) who has recently become a resident at Wimborne. The staff are welcoming, the home very clean and comfortable. The food, so my friend says, is excellent and allows a lot of choice. She is also impressed by the activities on offer everyday and she is looking forward to going out on a trip to."

"I have always found the carers and staff to be friendly and attentive to visitors and residents alike. Their passion and their care is constant. Activities are many and varied and the posts of social media (which is where I can see pictures of the resident and their activities) fill me and my family with confidence and the residents care and that they are being looked after."

"My father went to Wimbourne for 2 weeks respite care. He had not been in a care home setting before and as he has dementia we were anxious as to how this would work for him. From the very first telephone contact, the staff were brilliant. They answered questions, explained the setting and care, putting our minds at ease. My husband and I were then invited on a visit where time was taken to talk matters over with us. The 2-week respite went very well. Dad adjusted quickly and every effort was made to make him feel at home and cared for. An excellent experience for us all."

"Wimborne is a quirky and spacious home that provides amazing care by all members of staff who are always welcoming and always willing to go above and beyond to meet all residents' needs. It has beautiful, well-kept gardens and grounds. The inside of the home and bedrooms are always kept tidy and clean. Delicious main meals/snacks, tea and cake available at any time of the day. Fun activities are held in the home or trips out on the minibus for the afternoon with activities. We couldn't ask for a better team to look after our grandad."

"My grandfather received regular respite care at Wimborne Care Home and the team was outstanding in the care they provided. It really was a 'home from home'. When his condition deteriorated rapidly, the amazing team took him for respite with only 24hrs notice and made his last few weeks comfortable and dignified. We are so glad that he died with his 'extended family', the team who cared about him and knew him so well and not another hospital or care home who would not have known him as well. They not only provided holistic end-of-life care to him but also advice and support to us as a family. I would wholeheartedly recommend the team at Wimborne who really go the extra mile for all their family."

"Mum has been a resident at Wimborne Care Home for four and a half years. The staff are first class, every one of them. This gives me great comfort knowing that Mum is in good hands. Their patience and care are a credit to them and to Barchester. Communication and access are excellent, there is always time for a chat or an update when required. There are plenty of activities and special days are always celebrated in style. Burns Night, Valentine's Day, Easter etc. So much effort put in by the staff. Thank you."

"My mother aged 93 and suffering from dementia settled here very quickly thanks to the lovely setting (like a high-class hotel), excellent food and respectful but friendly ambience. When she became seriously ill and no hospital place was available, she received excellent care in the home from the amazingly skilled and caring Wimborne team under the supervision of the GP. We can't thank them enough."

"The respite care that was given to my father was completely covered with such understanding for his every like and dislike. All his medical needs were met very professionally and with care. We could go away knowing that he was safe and happy. He enjoyed his stay very much. Liked the staff and the meals especially were high on his list. Very stressful and worrying time having to leave him but again the staff were lovely. Thank you again to all at Wimbourne Hayling Island."

"The staff at Wimborne are to me its greatest asset. My mother has been in Wimborne for nearly four years, and during that time, her carers have for the most part been a stable staff, who my mother has grown familiar with. Whenever you arrive, leave or walk through the home, you are greeted by familiar, cheery faces who have managed to make my very shy mother feel safe and relaxed. I am very grateful for the way everyone has contributed to this warm and positive atmosphere. I have huge respect and gratitude for what you have done and continue to do for my mother and us. Please keep it up! Thank you."

"My mother spent her last 13 months at Barchester Wimborne Care Home and was confined to bed throughout that time. She was loved by all the staff and very well looked after by dedicated carers, the catering staff went out of their way to ensure mum was given nutritious food and everyone made her as comfortable as possible. My mother’s health progressively deteriorated but the carers’ dedication to look after her did not falter one iota. Barchester Wimborne offers comfortable décor, fixtures and fittings. A modernisation programme will start in 2022. My mother peacefully passed away at the Wimborne recently. In collecting her belongings, the genuine sadness and love expressed by many carers and staff bore witness to my decision to place mum in this lovely caring community. I cannot thank everyone enough at Barchester Wimborne for looking after my mother’s every need and making her stay as pleasant as possible."

I know that he is safe and well cared for in a lovely setting. Wimborne is a gem and I would highly recommend it."

"My mum has now spent just over a year at Barchester Wimborne Care Home. We as a family can not fault the care and support she receives from every single member of staff. From admin, housekeeping, maintenance, kitchen, carers and management. Everyone has their role in looking after my mum and they have all become like extended family. The food is excellent, all the organised activities are brilliant and go above and beyond my expectations, love being involved myself when I can. The home itself is always clean and well maintained. Thank you to the carers for the care they show my mum. I can't thank you all enough."

"We searched for a nice care home for my auntie and from the moment we walked through the door, we knew this was the place for her. Every member of staff greeted us and all the residents looked very happy. There was plenty going on and everywhere was spotless, modern and spacious. The room we chose looked out onto a beautiful garden. Auntie was not happy about leaving her own home but very soon she was talking about her future there and we saw a smile which we hadn't seen for a long time. It was a joy to see her happy. So much attention to detail here, even the chef visited her and asked about what she liked to eat as she was a vegetarian. She said for him not to make a fuss but true to his word he made her some lovely meals! The new manager there is lovely, she really is committed and dedicated to her job. Sadly auntie had a short time here and passed away peacefully Boxing Day after a lovely day. Thank you everyone for looking after her so well!"

Pleased we chose Barchester Wimborne Care Home for our mum as we don't have to worry about her like we used to when she was at home. Highly recommended."

"I visited a very dear friend yesterday at Wimborne Care Home at Hayling Island. She had had a very distressing few years ending with the death of her beloved husband in the Summer. She was in a very distressed and unhappy place during and after her husband's death. She was put in another care home on Hayling but did not adjust very well. She has only been in Wimborne for a matter of weeks and the transformation is amazing! She was happy and relaxed when I visited yesterday and said it was 'like home from home'. She has settled in wonderfully well, and feels loved and cared for! The food is excellent and she looks forward to her meals; she is cared for in every respect, hair, nails, clean clothes etc; and she enjoys the camaraderie of the other residents and the carers (whom she calls Angels!) as well as the outings in the minibus. I was made to feel very welcome too. I have visited many care homes in the course of my voluntary work over the years - Wimborne is simply the best!"

"My family has had the privilege of regularly visiting the Barchester Wimborne Care Home over the past two years. Our dad was a resident for two years. We chose the Wimborne after looking at long-term care for our loved one. Having viewed several homes for people with dementia prior to Dad moving in. He thought he 'owned it'. From his daily care, life, entertainment, health, he retained his dignity and self-respect. He kept his sense of humour, was encouraged to be himself. As a family, we saw him change as the dementia took hold but we could visit anytime. It became a second home to us. This last year has been difficult as Dad neared the end of his life, we chose to let him stay at the Wimborne where the skilled team looked after him, kept him safe and 'loved' him, so when the sad time came, his extended were there 24/7. They took it in turns to keep him clean, talk to him, feed him, so his self-respect was honoured. The team went above and beyond whilst still caring for other service users."

"My mum arrived at Barchester Wimborne Care Home on Thursday 25th July. She was very unsure of her surroundings, not too happy that she was not at home after spending seven weeks in hospital. She was in a very low mood with everything and everybody. All we can say is that this care home and all the brilliant staff have completely transformed my mother's state of mind and she has settled in and we can't believe the change in her well-being. She is a different person and we are so thankful to you all."
