Activities at Wimborne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Zoe Freeman

Lead Activities Coordinator

I have been working in care since 2019 and love the industry. I came from working on cruise ships and running events and activities there which has set me up to be a successful activities coordinator in care. You will never see me without a smile on my face and always bring my fun and bubbly personality to my job. My favourite part of my job is making people cheerful  and help make their wishes come true to show people that age is just a number and we can have fun no matter what!

108th Birthday Celebrations

Celebrations have been in full swing at Wimborne, as one resident reached her 108th birthday in style. Muriel was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday.

Muriel was born in 1910 in West Norwood, Borough of Lambeth in London. Muriel had two children, and has three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She married in September 1939 just as the Second World War started and her husband was sent to India for six years, when he returned to England after the Second World War. Muriel’s husband was a Doctor whilst Muriel was a house wife and they both enjoyed playing golf.

Staff at Wimborne arranged a party for Muriel and toasted her birthday with drinks, cake and presents.

Wear it Pink

Wear it Pink

Everybody at Wimborne had a brilliant time supporting Wear it Pink Day in aid of breast cancer awareness. All staff and residents took part and were dressed in pink for the day. The afternoon was filled with joy as we held many pink-themed games and a raffle, with all proceeds going towards Breast Cancer Now.

Gentlemen's Club

Gentlemen's Club

Lynn and Kerry recently held a gentlemen-only night at local pub, The Lifeboat. Everybody enjoyed a drink with a selection of classic bar snacks. The men thoroughly enjoyed the night and especially loved the game of pool that was had when the Head of Maintenance, Gary, and Second Chef, Damien, joined the party.

For the Fallen

For the Fallen

Lynn and Kerry have been taking residents to visit the beautiful cascade of more than 17,000 handmade poppies in a bid to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the First World War.

The spectacular piece of art was hanging from scaffolding outside the 12th Century St Peters Church in Northney. Some of the poppies have been knitted, some crocheted and some carved out of a branch that fell from a yew tree within the grounds.

The poppies were created mostly by people of Hayling Island, but have also come from friends around the globe.

Residents really enjoyed visiting the spectacular display.

Dorothy's 90th Birthday

Dorothy's 90th Birthday

October and November have been a very busy couple of months, with lots of residents celebrating their birthdays, including Dorothy, who recently turned 90. Dorothy spent the afternoon opening presents and eating birthday cake with all the staff and family around her.

Feeling Floral

Feeling Floral

Once a week, Lynn & Kerry collect bunches of various flowers from the local florists and shops so residents are able to create their own bouquets. The completed bouquets are then proudly shown off around the home and within residents' rooms, which really brightens up the place and to also shows the visitors who come to the home how talented our residents are.
