Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Anyone for pizza?

At lunchtime today White Lodge residents enjoyed eating the pizzas they made themselves in this morning’s baking activity. The pizzas were all different, some had a little too much ground pepper, but they all went down well and the smell throughout the home as they were being cooked made us all hungry.

An art class

Residents at White Lodge have enjoyed an art class this week, using pencils to draw still life objects and landscapes. The group found skills they didn't know they had and gained confidence during the class including Doreen who drew a hare. They are all looking forward to another class, finding objects around the home and views of the garden to try next time.

Helping in the office

We were delighted when Margaret offered to help us make up some marketing goodie bags. She helped us collate the leaflets and put them in the bags.

Friends for 40 years

Jennifer and Sheila trained as primary school teachers at different colleges but worked together at Lyneham School for 23 years. They remained friends after their retirements and have now known each other for over 40 years. The often reminisce about the years they spent teaching 4-7 year-olds, recalling Christmas pantomimes and outings to Westonbirt Arboretum. We are delighted that they are both resident at White Lodge and have been able to continue their long friendship here.

Walking group

We are fortunate to be in a beautiful rural area, and it means we can go on local walks to enjoy the fresh air. Three of our lady residents are pictured setting off on their walk, and Peter is pictured at the farm where he sometimes chats to the farmer.

Pub quiz afternoon

We can't wait to go to the pub again, so in the meantime we held our own pub quiz afternoon with beer for the gents, and brandy and lemonade as requested by the ladies. Doreen, Peter and David all had a great time.
