Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Wonderful Weekend

What a great weekend at White Lodge, our activities team are excellent at introducing new activities, but there are also some firm favourites and that includes bingo. Whilst the bingo is fun it is also quite serious! We have moved it to the dining room so dabbers can be quickly dabbed on the tables and with so many residents taking part we needed more space!

On Memory Lane we played beach football and handball, there was great excitement as to who would get the ball next. We also enjoyed the glorious weather with some walks around the grounds and were delighted to collect our fired ceramics and were delighted with the vibrancy of the colours.

Hook a Duck!

The activities room is all things red, white and blue as the team and residents prepare for the up and coming Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. Who better than our residents to try out the hook a duck which will be one of the many activities available on the 2nd June and what great fun we all had hooking those pesky ducks!

Specialist Dementia Care

It is Dementia Action Week with this year's campaign focussed on the theme of diagnosis, encouraging everyone to "act on dementia"

Barchester have a team of dementia specialists working with our homes that offer a Memory Lane Community. They support homes in offering person centred care, new initiatives and evidence based practice. Next month on 17th June White Lodge are launching our monthly dementia cafe.

The Memory Lane specialist dementia community in White Lodge is cleverly designed to assist residents with the use of colour and items on display. The White Lodge team play such an important role enriching the lives of residents on Memory Lane. The activities team offer residents so much variety and choice; in just the past few days we have enjoyed completing a puzzle, a game of quoits, enjoyed our resident pianist and relaxed with mindful colouring. As you enter Memory Lane you will hear familiar music and see displays and rummage boxes all with a theme.

Florence Nightingale on her Pop Up Pedestal

Today White Lodge residents met Florence Nightingale in the historic Malmesbury Abbey. No one quite knew what to expect when we were kindly invited by Celebrating Age Wiltshire to watch Florence Nightingale on her pop up pedestal - it really was such an interesting and enjoyable afternoon. It was also lovely for residents to meet the Mayor of Malmesbury, Kim Power. Thank you to Malmesbury Town Council and Celebrating Age Wiltshire for their kind hospitality.

Malmesbury Abbey dates back to the 12th Century with Malmesbury thought to be the first capital of England and home to the first King of England. Florence Nightingale was the founder of modern nursing and social reformer during the 19th century.

Celebrating International Nurses Day

There were raised glasses and cheers all round as White Lodge residents joined in celebrating International Nurses Day.

Thank you so much to all our wonderful nurses for your dedication and how you make a difference to our residents lives every day. It was great to have the team together for some photos and to present the nurses with a card and gift.

International Nurses Day is marked every year on May 12th as Florence Nightingale's Birthday. The White Lodge team dressed in historical nursing uniform which everyone really enjoyed. Celebrations continued with a special buffet and cupcakes for the team and residents.
