Activities at Westergate House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Lee Austin

Head of Lifestyles

My name is Lee and I am the Head of Lifestyle here at Westergate House.

I support our residents daily to do the things they enjoy and it is extremely important to me that we are offering a premium and person centred service to each resident. I support our residents on a daily basis by providing meaningful and quality activities either in groups or on a 1:1 basis, to help encourage and build confidence while creating an enjoyable environment for everyone. Westergate House is the home of our residents, we as staff are working in it, so it is extremely important to me that we are respectful of that, while offering a premium and person centred service to each and every resident.

I am a trained actor and professional vocalist and not shy in making a fool of myself. If I do that every day to put a smile on our residents faces then I’m happy I have played my part, along with the rest of the amazing team, to brightening their day. If you hear someone singing along the corridor or see them dancing in the lounges, it will probably be me.

Life at Westergate House Care Home

Just Us

Just Us

Residents and staff at Westergate enjoyed an afternoon with 'Just Us', a group who sing in a variety of different styles and performed a mash up of light verse, limericks and a range of songs.

Watercolour Afternoon

Watercolour Afternoon

Residents of Westergate House enjoyed a very therapeutic afternoon using watercolour paints to explore their inner artist. The session was rounded off with tea and cake.

The Garden Theatre Production

Residents of Westergate attended the Tangmere Dementia Hub for a showing by The Garden Theatre Production. The non-verbal production created a world whereby residents willing entered into the seasons of the year. Lighting, film and music, together with simple, yet stunning effects, led residents to cautiously touch something to see if it was hot – a truly magical production!

Autumn Fireworks Display

We enjoyed our annual firework display on 1st November. Residents, staff, family and friends gathered on the crisp and cold night to enjoy a warming supper of hot dogs and soup together. The maintenance team, together with one of our enthusiastic nurses, did a first class job with the technicolour night time extravaganza, treating everyone to a spectacular display which lit up the night sky to the delight of our spectators.

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

Folks at Westergate House had lots of fun celebrating 25 years of Barchester.

We got into the spirit of the celebrations with a visit from the Carousel Theatre Group, who performed ‘Radio Days’. Residents also enjoyed singing along with some guest entertainers, who joined us for the occasion.
