Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Waterside Court Care Home

National Elf Day

Last Friday 2nd December our staff swapped their uniforms for costumes on National Elf Day in an effort to raise funds to help people living with dementia. Launched by the Alzheimer’s Society and delivered direct from the North Pole, Elf Day was created to sprinkle some festive cheer on fundraising towards finding a cure for dementia. From stripy socks to head-to-toe elf outfits, these naughty little Waterside elves were up to mischief all day... there’s snow better way to raise money to help beat dementia!

Oomph! Dreamcatchers

During our weekly Arts & Crafts sessions we had Magic Aqua art and learnt all about 'Dreamcatchers' courtesy of Oomph Wellness. We now know the circular shape symbolises 'Mother Earth' and represents the continuous flow of life. Each of the catcher activity sheets were completed using our residents personal choice of colours and finished with feathers.

Christmas Market

Waterside Court care home residents and friends started the Wallingford Winter Wonderland festivities off in style with a super Christmas market full of local producer stalls. From pretty patchwork and quilted items, unique artwork, cards, handmade jewellery and fine pottery, there was something for everyone!

Visitors were entertained throughout by saxophonist Alan Hook who serenaded the crowd as they took a break from shopping to warm up with a mulled wine and selection of freshly made goodies from chef’s festive feasts table.

Thank you to everyone who attended; guests and stall holders alike, our residents and staff loved hosting you and wish you all a very Merry Christmas as we enter December… the month of all things fun and festive!

Waterside Court have an array of activities planned from 1st December, to find out more about the life enriching experiences on our ‘Countdown to Christmas’ calendar open to residents and families leading up to Christmas.

All things ginger!

The Baking Group had fun this week trying to prepare their ginger biscuits with a few 'furry friends' making an appearance. Our robotic pets, Ginger Tom and Puppy joined the group with the odd purr and bark to keep us all on our toes and in fits of giggles! All-in-all a good day's baking as the biscuits tasted delicious.
