Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Sizzling Summer Fete

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Waterside Court to enjoy a Summer Fete that was held in the home’s grounds on Saturday 27th August, 2022.

Waterside Court hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including prize winning games such as; Tombola, Raffle and Hook-a-Duck. We even had a ‘Wheelbarrow of Booze’ won by just one ticket holder!

With all proceeds going to the local donkey sanctuary in Wallingford; Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary. We raised an amazing £105.00!

Our guests were also entertained by Saxophonist, Alan Hook and had the chance to meet Mike, with his Therapy Dog, Monty who was on hand throughout the day to provide plenty of cuddles which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.

Staff made everyone feel welcome and were delighted to see different generations having fun together. Our visitors enjoyed wondering around the various 'pop-up' market stalls provided by local suppliers; Usborne Books, The Body Shop, Wooden Birdhouses and other wooden items, Jewellery and a Bric-a-Brac stalls.

Chef and the homes’ hospitality team provided plenty of refreshments, such as BBQ, cakes and a variety of summer puddings. The team were hard at work to make sure that a great time was had by all – it really was a team effort!

Our Resident Ambassador, Pearl spoke for all her fellow residents; “We thoroughly enjoyed it. We were surrounded by lots of great people, and the refreshments kept flowing. The weather was just right. Staff did a great job, not just on the day, but organising the event and getting everyone together.”

Maraya Rabuka, General Manager said: “Staff at Waterside Court are dedicated to making sure that the home is a hub of the local community, and this event, along with all their hard work, has definitely paid off. It was a resounding success!”

We 'd like to send a BIG THANK YOU to all who joined us on this very special day, and look forward to the next community gathering at our beautiful home.

Proud to be rated 'GOOD' by CQC

Waterside Court Care Home on Winterbrook in Wallingford passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with an overall ‘Good’ rating after being praised for operating a safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led service.

The CQC inspected the home on May 19th, 2022 and rated the home, run by Barchester Healthcare, as ‘Good’ in all five areas of the inspection – safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led. The report stated that residents at the home received good care that met their needs and improved their wellbeing by a well-trained, well-supported staff team who were dedicated, enthusiastic and had very positive team morale.

Also highlighted in the report was that people were happy with the care they received, felt safe, were relaxed with staff and were treated with kindness. The report stated that staff, relatives and residents were actively involved in the care of their loved ones and in developing the service and that their feedback had led to changes in things like activities and food choices. The report said care was given in a compassionate and person-centred way, that residents had maximum control and choice, and were well supported in the least restrictive way possible.

The report found that staff loved working at the home, one staff member said: “We are all supported here, the managers are hands on and very willing to help out.” Another staff member said: “The manager is very calm and approachable, the best manager we have ever had. She knows each and every person in and out and is so supportive.” A relative commented: “The carers are very kind and respectful, they really do care and nothing is too much trouble.” Another relative added: “My loved one is well looked after and she is doing things she couldn’t do previously which allows her to be more independent.”

Maraya Rabuka, General Manager at Waterside Court Care Home said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Waterside Court has been rated ‘Good’ following the CQC’s inspection. It is fantastic to have the hard work and dedication of everyone here recognised. It has been difficult for everyone in the care sector to get through the last two years but we have all pulled together as a team and everyone has worked incredibly hard. The next step is to achieve outstanding!”
