Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Essential Funds for Donkey Sanctuary

Residents and staff at Waterside Court in Wallingford put the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’ during their Summer Fete in August 2022.

Waterside Court hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including prize winning games such as Tombola, Raffle, Hook-a-Duck and a ‘Wheelbarrow of Booze’ with all proceeds going to the local donkey sanctuary in Wallingford; Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary.

We raised an amazing £105.00!

Today we had a special VIP guest star pop over to pick up the collection; beautiful Tracey joined our residents in the Waterside café for high tea and cuddles!

Maraya Rabuka, General Manager at Waterside Court said: “We love to fundraise for charities throughout the year, we pick different causes to support that have been selected by staff, residents and friends of the home.

Being local to Wallingford, and regular visitors to our home the Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary is very close to the hearts of all our staff and residents. We feel really proud to have been able to raise this money and send enormous thanks to everyone who had fun at the fete and donated!”

Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary is a registered charity which cares for and protects abused and ill-treated donkeys and other animals.

Ticked Pink Performance

What a performance! Our residents and guests enjoyed ‘The Best of Tickled Pink Productions' as the troop tap danced through 20-years of glitzy costume changes, singing songs from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s!

We all joined in, singing and dancing along as the group performed a snap-shot of their 35 shows with a lovely light hearted romantic comedy story linking together each scene.

There was something for everyone - musical theatre and jazzy tap numbers from Singing In the Rain and Putting on The Ritz to the Westerns to We'll Meet Again and snippets from Swell Party, The Swinging Sixties and Abbalutley Fantastic!

One resident said “Wow that was non stop, full of classic songs we all knew, and the constume changes were incredible.”

General Manager, Maraya Rabuka said, “Our residents and guests had a wonderful day singing along with the wonderful performers. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment at Waterside Court as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this was one of our favourites! We can't wait for them to return with their Christmas show."

Happy 90th Birthday 'Connor'

Earlier this month we had the pleasure to gather together to wish ‘Young at Heart’ Connor a very happy 90th Birthday.

Cheerful Connor is a super chap, always the first to offer support to any event or activity the home is arranging. With his amazing organisational skills we can always rely on Connor to make the day run smoothly. He even led a recent exercise class with a round of beach volley ball whilst the group waited for the physio to arrive!

Happy birthday Connor! We all had a wonderful day, with a visit from your daughter, and sitting together to share his birthday cake and stories of his younger days in Ireland over afternoon tea.

The photos are of Connor with his brothers on horseback, and on his very special wedding day to his beautiful wife; Sandra.

The Great Big Green Community Event

What a brilliant day for a get-together, come and say hello, grab a slice of cake and have a chat to Maraya and Philippa at the Waterside Court pop up. Whilst visiting our stand The Great Big Green Community event today in Wallingford Market place, resident Anne who provided her collection of Royal scrapbooks to the Queen Elizabeth II exhibition in the Town Hall managed to view the full gallery of items on display, taking time to sign the book of condolence.

Out and About in the Community

The Waterside Court team have been out and about Wallingford, and its surrounding villages getting to know local businesses, and community support teams. Our mission is to make the local communities aware of all the exciting events open to the public at Waterside Court.

From weekly activities, to our monthly Dementia Friendly Café, and Carer Support Group to the ‘Don’t Dine Alone – Winter Warmers’ campaign that offers a warming bowl of soup and a soft roll to older people within our community feeling alone and in need of some company throughout the winter months.

All events and activities are complimentary, and give our residents, and staff the opportunity to meet and greet new friends. We hope to meet many more people at tomorrows' ‘The Great Big Green Week - Social Pop-up’ event being held in Wallingford Market Place from 10am – 4pm.

Come and say ‘hello’, have a slice of homemade cake and help us grow our friendship group

Happy Birthday to our 1st Resident

Please join us in wishing ‘Maureen’ a very happy 89th birthday, our very first resident at Waterside Court!

Maureen loves animals, especially Monty the Waterside Court PET therapy dog. She also has a super collection of teddy bears that sit proudly in her room, every one of them having its own particular place and story.

Having spent many years in Germany Maureen can converse in both English and German. She, like many of us loves her bed, and her special blanket, given to her by her daughter.

Her birthday coincided with a performance by Saxman ‘Alan Hook’ who serenaded Maureen as Chef delivered her homemade birthday cake. The smile on her face was infectious as we gathered together in song to celebrate her special day!
