Activities at Threshfield Court Care Home

Here at Threshfield Court, we aim to tailor the activities to meet the needs of individual residents, the communities within the home and the home as a whole. We have regular, structured activities such as visits from Music for Health, specialist armchair exercise facilitators, local musicians and a growing team of volunteers, including our local clergy. We also have time for arts and crafts, all sorts of games, music, poetry and lots more. We are pretty good at being spontaneous too!

Life at Threshfield Court Care Home

A trip out to Hubberholme River

Residents at Threshfield Court recently took advantage of the warm weather to enjoy a drive out on the mini bus to take in the beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire Dales which surrounds the home. We were able to listen to the song thrush whilst watching the swallows dive for a drink from the River Wharfe.   We were located near to The George Inn which was J B Priestley’s favourite watering hole.  Opposite the pub is Hubberholme Church which showcases  the pews, choir stalls and chairs which were made by Thompson of Kilburn, “the mouseman”.  The church also has one of only two remaining medieval roodloft and screens in the North of England.

Whilst enjoying our history lesson, we enjoyed a tea and coffee served with a biscuit.  Being out and about is just wonderful.

Blenheim Palace virtual talk

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.

The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.

It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.

Its a piece of cake at Threshfield

Threshfield Court Care Centre in Threshfield brewed up a storm for National Cream Tea day on the 28th June.

Finally putting an end to the controversial debate of cream before jam for the Cornish tradition or jam before cream as part of the Devonshire tradition, Threshfield Court Care Centre enjoyed homemade scones both ways with a fes-tea-val of herbal and classic teas.

Residents at the home enjoyed a selection of sweet and savoury treats including cucumber sandwiches, teacakes, and fresh scones

Stacey Nicholson, Senior General Manager at Threshfield Court Care Centre said: “residents really enjoyed the sweets and savouries for National Cream Tea day, where we learnt the history of the British tradition and participated in a few traditions of our own.”

Nutrition & Hydration Week

It is Nutrition and Hydration Week at Threshfield Court. We had a lovely discussion as to what to bake, and we decided on Mary Berry Chocolate Chip scones. Whilst the scones were baking, we enjoyed listening to Abba and drinking a lovey cup of Yorkshire tea.

We like to bake late morning, so that when our lunch arrives we are all ready for a wonderful two-course lunch. We will be enjoying the scones late afternoon with butter and jam.

Residents enjoy tour of Hereford Cathedral

We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.

We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.

Garden time

We have all forgotten the cold and damp May and are really enjoying our garden strolls around the garden at Threshfield Court.  We were sat admiring a beautiful Buddleia plant and watching the nesting birds feed their young.  Our garden strolls are so popular we set up a tea and coffee station half way round which was very much appreciated.  There was a refreshing breeze blowing and you  just cannot put a price on being outdoors in the Yorkshire Dales
