Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Monthly Coffee Morning

Our monthly coffee morning went off without a hitch, and some residents carried it on into the afternoon by soaking up the sun in the garden with some fresh fruit!

Weekly Gardening Club

Weekly Gardening Club

Sutton Grange’s weekly gardening club was held in doors this week, but that didn’t stop us from keeping busy.

Sutton Grange Took a Walk for Alzheimer's Society

Sutton Grange Took a Walk for Alzheimer's Society

Sutton Grange Care Home took up the challenge of walking up one of the Lake District's highest peaks to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.

Emily Leavitt, one of our lovely Carers who organised this event, said: ”Oh my God, what an amazing day we all had! And to do it for the Alzheimer's Society, which is very close to all our hearts, made it even better. We found this to be a massive challenge that pushed some of us to tears and took 9 hours; we climbed down the ridge on the way down and I was terrified (I expected Bear Grylls to join us at any moment), but our team work got us to the end."

Meet Ken

Meet Ken

Ken was one of our first residents here at Sutton Grange, and wholeheartedly embraces an array of activities throughout the home.

Through his own interests, Ken has been instrumental in helping us to provide interesting activities, aiding in building a sense of community and comradery amongst both staff and residents alike.

Ken’s interests have given us a basis for our weekly gardening club, a music club, and a film club. Ken’s love of painting means that our lovely activity room is never short of something beautiful to look at!

Ken says, "I don’t work hard, I just like to keep myself entertained."

As Ken enjoys keeping busy, he has joined the panel at interviews, asking potential staff important questions from a resident's perspective. His latest role here at Sutton Grange sees him talking to families who may be looking for care, about life here at Sutton Grange.

To thank him for his help and wonderful presence, we presented him with a set of paints and brushes for his favourite hobby.

Employee of the Month - June

Employee of the Month - June

Activities Coordinator, Krystina Dodd, has been named June's Employee of the Month here at Sutton Grange, as voted by staff, residents and relatives.

Krystina is relatively new to Sutton Grange and has settled into her role very well, providing activities that are fun, stimulating, therapeutic and most of all - fun!

She has such a passion for exploring the individual needs of residents and provides one-to-one time in an effort listen to ideas and arrange appropriate activities for them.

Marie Forshaw, our Deputy Manager, presented her with a certificate and a £25 voucher to say well done.

Barchy Bear's Bake Off

Barchy Bear's Bake Off

As part of our National Care Home Open Day celebrations, the children from Churchtown Primary School were invited to enter our Barchy Bear Bake Off competition.
