Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Baking Apples

We picked some apples from the garden and filled them with Whiskey-soaked dried fruit, then topped them with butter and sugar. After baking them, we ate them as part of our lunch, and they were delicious.

Karaoke with Mad Pete

We had a wonderful time with Mad Pete, who came along and entertained us with some karaoke. Residents and staff sang their little hearts out. This was the first time for some people, but we all enjoyed the music and we are looking forward to him coming back.

Garden Centre Visit

We had a great afternoon out at the local garden centre. Residents bought bulbs to plant for the winter.

Scarecrow Festival

Scarecrow Festival

The Scarecrow Festival is a local event that we decided to participate in. Residents first designed the scarecrow, then we made our papier-mâché head, dressed and stuffed her with straw. General Manager, Ben, even added the finishing touches to her beautiful face.

Although we never won any prizes, we all agreed that she was first class. Residents also went on trips in the minibus to see all the other 80 scarecrows in the village that other people had made.

Residents' Tree

Residents' Tree

Activities Coordinator, Rob, had a great idea to make tree art that contained all the residents' thumb prints. This will be displayed in our reception area and, as new residents arrive, they will add their own print to give everyone a sense of belonging within the home.
