Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Romanian Sweet Treats

Big thank you to carer 'Andrei' who decided to treat our residents to some home-made authentic Romanian pancakes. Smothered in chocolate sauce and topped with freshly sliced banana; they were simply delicious. We really looking forward to Shrove Tuesday on 16th February now!

St Mary's Hearts of Hope

The residents and staff at Southerndown wish to send a BIG THANK YOU to St Mary's Primary School, Chipping Norton for donating a selection of hand-crafted hearts created by the students; each with personalised messages.

They’ll be placed on display within our Romeo & Juliet scene for Valentine’s Day - We know our residents and all visitors will absolutely love reading them.

Waffles & Chocolate Cakes

Today our memory lane residents enjoyed making and eating freshly baked waffles with honey and chocolate sauce.

In aid of International chocolate cake day our residents had the pleasure of sampling different chocolate cakes from a tower prepared by chef, and a slice of wonderful chocolate sponge cake created by one of our amazing staff.

All at Southerndown agreed ...simply yummy!

Burns Night

We're getting ready for Burns Night on 25th January 2021 with a little art therapy; colouring posters to decorate the lounge, and our lovely resident Jean enjoyed watching a virtual cookery class on 'how to make Haggis' so she can ensure chef gets it right this evening!

After reading the 'Address to the Haggis' They all agreed it was delicious. Well done chef.

Crafty fun at Southerndown

Our residents have had fun getting crafty at Southerndown today; we've been very busy preparing our 2D 'Valentines Heart' which will be on show within our outside Romeo & Juiet themed display.

Everyone really enjoyed getting 'stuck in'... who knew how many of us were a dab hand with Papier-mâché! We can’t wait to show you the finished display.

Winnie the Pooh Day

We celebrated 'National Winnie the Pooh Day' at Southerndown on 18th January with a super Teddy Bears tea party. Staff and residents enjoyed tea and cake with their bears, whilst our Deputy Manager; Clem, assisted by resident Carol, read quotes from the famous AA Milne book.

Our favourite quote of the day "If there ever comes a day when we can't be together, keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever”
