Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Wishing Well

Spring is starting to get our home and residents itching to get out into the garden. Over the coming weeks we will be repotting and clearing away the autumn leaves. Today our residents helped the activities team put together a 'wishing well' ... flat pack assembly is definitely not as easy as it looks!

Happy Retirement 'Uncle Bob'

After almost 17 years of continuous service here at Southerndown our much-loved Maintenance Assistant, Robert Tinkham affectionately known by all as ‘Uncle Bob’ has decided to retire. Today; staff and residents took time-out to send Bob off in style, with a personalised ‘Uncle Bob; tankard, cake and other gifts to thank him for many years of dedication to our beautiful home.

During his time here, uncle Bob has been the glue that keeps our home together, from his decorating, gardening and handy man skills, to his singing whilst driving our minibus when taking our residents on days-out. “Uncle Bob is one of those people who was born to care for others, a real ‘people person’ he has such a huge heart and will be greatly missed by his Southerndown family – ‘Uncle Bob’ we wish you all the best for a relaxing retirement”.

All Staff & Residents Vaccinated (1st Dose)

This week we celebrated 'All staff and residents at Southerndown have received the first dose of their Covid-19 vaccinations c/o Chipping Norton Health Centre, after what has been a very challenging year for everyone'

General Manager, Ela Solomon said: “We’ve all been through such a difficult time and this feels like such a big step on the way to getting back to some normality. I am so proud of the team and how they have worked together and continue to do so and we are all so grateful to be prioritised to receive the vaccine first.  Now that everyone in the home has had their first dose, we feel like we’ve started on the long road to recovery.”

Ela has just received confirmation that ‘Laurentiu Adrian Huidu, Registered General Nurse’ at Southerndown will be the first member of the team to receive the 2nd vaccine today 19/02/21!

Sue Busby, Head of Housekeeping said: “There is such a sense of relief.  We are all so pleased to have had the first dose of the vaccine.  It will help to keep our residents safe, we’re looking forward to getting our second dose as soon as is possible.”

What an amazing achievement and commitment to the protection of our residents, staff and local community. #DontWaitVaccinate #chippingnortonnews

Valentines Day

We hope your day has been filled with 'love & happiness' in these difficult times we hope you have managed to find something that makes you smile. Our residents have been busy compiling an indoor display, full of their own valentine's inspired arts & crafts before sitting down to a special candle lit dinner.

This afternoon they settled down to watch 'My Fair Lady'... A perfect end to a wonderful day!
