Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Emma Powers
Hi, my name is Emma Powers; I am the Activities Coordinator here at Sherwood Lodge.
I have worked in the care sector for over two decades; prior to this I was a soldier in the UK Armed Forces where I gained exceptional powers of communication, organisation and teamwork. During my time as a carer I have gained my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and have been employed as a Senior Carer. I chose to switch professional roles to activities as I find supporting both residential and dementia residents very rewarding.
I have been employed within Barchester for over three years, I love working for this company and am really excited to continue to care for all of its residents and their families.

Life at Sherwood Lodge Care Home
Clothes Sale
We recently held a clothes sale for Esther Martin, which was hosted by Laura. It was a great afternoon, and everyone had lots of fun trying on new outfits.
Bluebell Woods
The sun was shining, so we enjoyed a scenic trip up around Bluebell Woods.
Fulwood Beavers
Sherwood Lodge was visited by the Fulwood Beavers, who were dressed in superhero costumes for ‘Superhero Day’ in support of disadvantaged children.
The Beavers, led by Alan Willis, competed in relay races, building and dismantling towers, and, with the aid of residents, made paper darts to destroy the ‘terrible squid monster’. With endless energy, the super heroes then served refreshments to residents and ended with the dreaded ‘baby shark’ song.
We all really enjoyed an energetic and entertaining evening, many thanks to Alan, the parents and, of course, the children.
We are now rated 'Good'!
We recently passed a Care Quality Commission inspection with an overall 'Good' rating after being praised for a responsive, safe, effective, caring and well-led service.
In celebration of the rating and to thank each member of the team for their contributions to the home, staff members were presented with a £100 gift voucher as a token of a appreciation.
Easter Celebrations
Sherwood Primary School invited residents to judge their Easter egg decorating competition and meet the children. The entries were amazing! Many thanks to Sherwood Primary School for a great afternoon!
Musical Magic
We were recently entertained by Eric Jones, who sang all our favourite songs. Both staff and residents joined in and raised the roof. It was great fun!
