Activities at Queens Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Shannon Cullen

Senior Head of Lifestyle

Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.

I ensure that myself and the team get to  know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home -  Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.

In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way.   Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Euros 2020!

We couldn’t possibly miss watching the Scotland vs Czech Republic game! Especially since it’s the first time that Scotland have played in the euros in 23 years.

The residents had a great time watching the football game – Our amazing Chef – Raymond – put on a great spread of homemade haggis bon bons and mini steak and ale pies. All washed down with a Bovril or a nice cold beer.

Carer's Week

Every week is  carers week here at Queens Manor!  Although the official week was from the 7th to the 13th of June 2021, we like to celebrate all of the time.   We truly believe that we have the best carers here at Queens Manor! They are dedicated, fun, passionate and highly skilled. We are so lucky to have such an amazing team!

Afternoon at the beach

Some of the lovely residents and staff had a great time at the Cramond Beach this past week.  We spent the afternoon having a good old chin wag, sharing stories and having lots of laughs. The time was made even better when the ice lollies and hot drinks were brought out!

Residents enjoy tour of Hereford Cathedral

We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.

We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.

High Tea!

During these uncertain times, our hospitality team ensure our residents spirits are kept high with delicious food and tasty treats.

All of our residents were invited to attend our High Tea, which included scrumptious savoury treats, homemade soup and an abundance of sweet delights.

At the moment we are unable to enjoy our usual coffee mornings, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy a cup of tea and a chat together, along with a scone!

Residents enjoy National Reef Day

Arts and crafts are a favourite here at Queens Manor and to bring in some cheer, our residents have been enjoying creating some reef art.   We have spent some time learning about the ocean, reefs, corals and expressing our love for the ocean.

Our residents then enjoyed a fishy quiz and reminisced over our favourite sea adventures.
