Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oak Grange Care Home

Getting Creative

Residents have been discovering their creative sides at Oak Grange with regular art therapy sessions in the mornings. With small groups and relaxing music, residents are able to switch off and focus on their painting. The finished works are simple, yet spectacular, and are giving people a big confidence boost as well!

A Breath of Fresh Air

Residents of Oak Grange took to the home's beautiful garden to take advantage of the recent glorious weather. Everyone commented on how much better they felt for grabbing a breath of fresh air, feeling the sun on their faces and checking on the progress of the plants, including the colourful pots that have just been added.

Pen Pals

Residents of Oak Grange have teamed up with Chester University for a newly launched pen-pal scheme, connecting residents within their homes with creative writing students. Residents have been sharing their stories of the past with year four students, and making new friends in the inter-generational scheme.

Letter writing, which is part of the university's creative writing curriculum, has covered topics such as holidays and places to visit, as well as cautionary tales from both the students and the residents of Oak Grange. Residents were able to share their interesting tales of the past and how they have been keeping busy during the pandemic.

Keeping Active

Residents of Oak Grange got stuck into their weekly activities with aplomb as the team arranged a full week of fun sporting activities for everyone to enjoy during their 1-2-1 sessions. Residents can be very competitive, so there were a few tense games of armchair tennis and bowls, but it was wonderful to see everyone trying new sports, having fun and keeping active.

A house favourite is definitely bowling! It was so much fun and really enjoyable, with lots of laughter. Our residents believe in living life to the full, that’s why the home is passionate about creating vibrant, stimulating activities that will help our residents to love every day.

Residents Enjoy Morning of Musical Melodies

Many of our residents enjoy music-centered activities that not only entertain, but stimulate the mind. Some of the resident’s favorite activities include creating their own music with instruments and everyday objects as well as dancing to special performers and were delighted when musical melodies joined them for a group session.

Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along before sitting back to enjoy a slice of home-made cake and refreshments together.

General Manager, Karen Fitzpatrick said, “Our residents and guests had a wonderful day singing along with the wonderful performers. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment at Oak Grange as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this was one of our favourites!”

This activity took place before the lockdown.

Pet Therapy Visit Enjoyed by All

The residents at Oak Grange welcomed a beautiful dog in for pet therapy. Mindy visits the home regularly and spends a few hours meeting all the residents with her owner, Stephanie. Pet therapy can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also increase self-esteem and improve social skills, so everyone was absolutely delighted to have them along. Mindy is very beneficial to those who spend time in their rooms and find her a great comfort.

This particular activity is part of the homes “meaningful activities”  where residents have access to a huge variety of activities, all tailored to our residents likes and dislikes.

General Manager, Karen Fitzpatrick says “We are delighted that we were able to get a PAT dog to visit us regularly as our residents really enjoy it so much! I’m sure Mindy does too, she is getting plenty of love and cuddles and we appreciate Stephanie bringing her along!”

This activity took place before the lockdown.
