Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oak Grange Care Home

Residents Enjoy a Trip Out for an Afternoon Tea

Residents from Oak Grange enjoyed an afternoon tea at Leonidas, fresh Belgian chocolatier in Chester. As well as enjoying the tea, the residents got the opportunity to get chatting to people from the local community who were in the cafe, before taking in the delights of the greatest choice of fresh Belgian chocolates in the very heart of Chester.

Leonidas offer a variety of more than 80 types of fresh chocolates, marzipans, jellys and confectionery. Combine this with 100% Leonidas hot chocolate or fresh illy coffees and you're in heaven!

Karen Fitzpatrick, General Manager, said: “The residents really enjoyed themselves, and it was great to see. The residents regularly get out and about. Here’s to many more afternoon tea’s to come.”

The trips outside the home took place before the lockdown.

A Colourful Afternoon

With the signs of summer approaching, residents at Oak Grange embraced a seasonal activity in the form of flower arranging. The colourful creations brighten up the afternoon with some greenery taken from the homes extensive garden.

Many of our residents used to flower arrange when they were younger and they really enjoyed making the arrangements, which were placed around the home for everyone to enjoy and see. The home looks forward to welcoming members from the local community to join them.

Everyone enjoyed assorting the flowers to create beautiful arrangements in various vases, while having a catch-up over a cup of tea.

Century Celebrations for Resident

Celebrations have been in full swing at Oak Grange as one of its residents reaches her centenary in style. Joyce Smith was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef.

Karen Fitzpatrick General Manager said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone. Joyce is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more as she breaks into her next century.”

Residents Enjoy Blooming Afternoon

Residents of Oak Grange enjoyed an afternoon of flower arranging to help decorate their home with springtime blooms. Everyone enjoyed assorting the flowers to create beautiful arrangements in various vases while having a catch-up over a cup of tea.

Heather Lowndes, activities coordinator at Oak Grange, said: “Everyone really enjoyed the flower arranging activity. Our home looks and smells even more lovely now the beautiful blooms are on display.”

A Walk on the Wild Side

Residents of Oak Grange were delighted to welcome Zoolab into the home. They brought along a variety of exotic furry friends for residents to meet. Residents, relatives and colleagues enjoyed listening to the facts and information about each animal, as well as holding and petting each one, with some overcoming fears of reptiles.

One resident remarked at how they weren’t expecting the snake to feel as soft as it did. Everyone enjoyed watching the animals as they moved around, with some residents speaking about the difference between the different species.

Chinese New Year

Oak Grange welcomed the Year of the Rat with a day of celebration and activities, which were a delight for staff, residents, relatives and friends of the home.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, lucky red envelopes were exchanged and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns. Residents were able to sit back and enjoy pots of tea and to share their favourite Chinese dishes and stories of their travels to far flung destinations.

It was the perfect opportunity for residents to do something different, and bring the popular celebrations going on around the country and local community into the home. Activities like these always provide a fun and engaging way for our residents to celebrate Chinese New Year.
