Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oak Grange Care Home

Virtual talk with Art Historian

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.

Chester Zoo - A Day to Remember

Ian spent a lovely day at the Chester Zoo celebrating a personal anniversary, the elephant house is his favourite place so he spent a long time just watching these big beautiful creatures doing their thing. The sun shone all day and with lunch out at a local restaurant it was a perfect day. As we have a whole home approach to our residents wellbeing Ian requested that Gavin, his key worker spent the day with him at the zoo, even though Gavin was on annual leave he was more than happy to spend the day with Ian.

International Museum Day

In recognition of International Museum Day, we’ve had the perfect opportunity to organise a day trip to The Museum of Liverpool.

Our residents spent time learning interesting and fun facts about museum collections and galleries, they looked at life in and around Liverpool, their football facts and enjoyed a reminiscing session, where they shared amazing stories about museums that they have visited in the past.

It was a very exciting and enjoyable day for all.

A Chance Meeting

We have a gentleman here named Darren Rigg who ran a Greyhound adoption centre in the USA, he rescued over 6000 dogs when he founded his adoption charity, and now he lives here at Oak Grange.

One of our nurses who knew his story was driving to work and saw a lady walking 3 greyhounds, so she stopped the car and introduced herself and asked for a photo of the dogs to show Darren, this lead to a whole conversation with this lady who also rescued greyhounds.

So I then got in touch with her and we arranged for her to visit the home with the dogs, it was such a wonderful thing to see Darren’s smile when he saw the dogs, he can no longer converse very well but it was clear to see how much he loved these dogs, his smile lit up the room.

The lady who came in with her husband is called Julie and Paul Wainwright, and the dogs are called Ollie, Alice and Jenny. They are now going to visit on a regular basis and we all feel like we have made some amazing new friends.

Coronation Celebrations

Excitement was in the air as we all celebrated the highly anticipated Coronation of King Charles in style.

Our home was beautifully decorated with themed flags, banners and red, white and blue balloons, setting the stage for a grand royal indoor street party

The whole home came together, along with families, friends and local community members to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering. We enjoyed some delicious cake and a glass of bubbles to wish our new king all the best.

A Very Special Day

What a joyous occasion for our lovely residents Sue and Ray! They were invited to their son's wedding and we wanted to make it extra special for them. Our amazing staff on Memory Lane helped them get ready with a stunning outfit for Sue and a handsome suit for Ray. They looked fabulous and had a wonderful time at the wedding. We are so happy for them and proud of our staff for going above and beyond. Here are some beautiful photos of their special day.
