Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oak Grange Care Home

Historic Royal Palaces

Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

It's all leek to me!

Celebrations were under way at Barchester’s Oak Grange care home, in Mollington, as residents and staff marked St. David’s Day.    The home was in high spirits as they celebrated the national day of Wales with daffodil decorations, traditional Welsh treats including baking their own Bara brith. In honour of the traditional feast day and the country’s patron saint, residents and staff were treated to traditional Welsh food and drink.  Everyone tucked in to welsh cakes, leek cawl, bara brith, washed down with a nip of Penderyn whisky.

General Manager, Sarah Butler said: “We love celebrating St David’s Day here at Oak Grange. All the staff and residents were wearing daffodils and our head chef Simon did a brilliant job of preparing a lovely spread so that we could really celebrate the day.”

International Flower Day

Today we celebrated International Flower Day in style, a great way in mid-winter to bring joy and happiness into the home.

Our residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including a flower arranging session, which everyone really enjoyed.

The collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive. It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.

Women in science

February 11th is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The day celebrates the achievement's of women in science and aims to encourage more girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math(STEM). The history of the day dates back to 2015, when the United Nations General Assembly declared it an official day of observance.

We tried out a Lava Lamp science experiment which the residents enjoyed, watching the colourful bubbles rising to the top of the jars.  We then looked at different women who have contributed to the field of science throughout history.

Love is in the air!

To get into the Valentine’s spirit of things, we put our creative shoes on and made a wonderful themed display that we can’t help falling in love with!

Our residents and teams worked hard to decorate the home for the occasion and to create a beautiful display using love hearts, themed banners balloons handmade cards and of course roses.

Pet therapy

The residents from Oak Grange had a visit from Winston today our therapy dog and everyone loved giving him lots of cuddles and pats.
